Apple II golden power supply switches off after 2 minutes

My Apple II+ (golden) power supply can switch on my Apple II (non-plus) just fine.
However after 2-3 minutes it powers off. The only cards I have attached are a 16K memory expansion and a Disk ][ drive controller.

A replacement power supply does not suffer from this problem.

Any thoughts on what might be wrong?

I deleted the duplicate in Hardware Repair. This is the best place for your query, anyway. The problem is almost certainly a thermal shutdown, so perhaps one of the Apple II experts can advise.
