I recently acquired a NIB Apple IIe card and put it in a Quadra 605. Everything works just fine, except when I tried to hook up a 5.25 floppy drive (A9M0107), the IIe card doesn't seem to recognize it. I've tried two different drives that were claimed to be in working order, and neither works for me. I have some old 5.25 disks I'd like to use, so this is driving me crazy. Unfortunately, I don't know if I have two dud disk drives, or a dud IIe card or Y cable. As I said, this card was NIB (shrinkwrapped), although the Y cable is pretty discolored. Any ideas how I can narrow down the problem?

Do you know if the drives work when plugged into any other Apple?

No other way to test

Unfortunately, I have no other way to test either of the drives I have. I'm in the Boston area if that changes anything Wink

Both were claimed to be working when I bought them. I'm just wondering if there's something simple I could be overlooking...

You should get the drives tested. If I understand correctly, the IIe card works, but doesn't access the drives? Since it was never opened, we can probably assume for now that it's working. The cable likely works too, though you could check the pins if perhaps one is bent or missing.

Otherwise, I'd blame it on the disk drives. Do you see the red light turn on or even just blink?

No red light at all. I'd get the drives tested if I could, but I don't know anyone who has a working Apple II machine.
