Start-up remote Panther box?

Does anyone know if its possible to start a Panther box up (that isn't, of course, already running) remotely? Something like a command sent to the NIC that would tell the machine to turn on... this would be a neat thing.

Do a search for "Wakeonlan" and "Macintosh". Apparently at least some newer Mac hardware supports the feature, at least from sleep mode.

http://www.imac.com/downloads/macosx/networking_security/wakeonlan.html

I used to have a Linux box with a RAID which I used WOL on, so I didn't waste power constantly. That machine (a generic server PC) *could* be woken up from a cold start, of course.

unfortunately

my Panther box is a 9600... so it can't go to sleep (at least, I don't think XPostFacto supports it)

But you were quick on the draw with that response, and you nearly nailed it, so I say 'thank you.'

I don't think your name suits you, though, because I seriously doubt you have a brain the size of a pea, and you are certainly not a bird brain. But the avatar is cool. I'd hate to see one of those diving at me.
