Does anyone know of a free or relatively cheap FTP server that I can get for my Mac OS 9 server.

yes . . .

hotline ftp server is free, albeit limited. I use NetPresenz, though not cheap at $70 it's a pretty comprehensive server package.

I don't have any names but there were a few Web Server/FTP Suites that had a free OS 9 version. They were bundled like a "Web Engine" or something along that nature.

Sadly the free ftp/http blitz happened for Windows but untill Mac OS X, us Mac users were left in the dark.

The original NetPrezenz was shareware. Search the old hyper-archive and AOL mirrors, some copies of the older shareware versions may still be around. When it was shareware the registration fee was only $10.00.
