What went wrong with your first crack at the analog board? Have you tried undoing the modification?

Where abouts in Europe are you? If the UK, I may be able to help.

I also have a CC wich I would like to upgrade w.LC 575 Board

Hello - I wonder if you or anyone would help me with an LC 575 upgrade as recently discussed - or the 480 x 640 VGA upgarde.

- I would like to upgrade my CC with the a 575 board
- I have one but I do not know if it works just like that

Would you or anyone help me or advice in this topic ?

- I have the Mystic link -

VGA vs. Hi-Res

I read on another board that the Hi-Res mod will tax the analog board. Is this true? Also, where can I find the step-by-step instructions for the vga mod?

Can I by-pass the whole mod thing and just install a version of 8.0? Will 8.0 work but, not run the monitor at 640x480?

Not sure what you mean, are you asking if it works without any modification?

If you mean you have looked over the instructions for the Mystic modification at the Color Classic FAQ page, then you have all you need to know Wink

I am sort of curious too, now that substantial time has gone by, has anyone found the hi-res mod to be less reliable than the VGA mod? Perhaps we should have a thread with an informal survey of which mod has had more analogue board failures?

Getting 640x480 is independent from the OS. OS 8 should install on a Mystic, but IIRC OS 8 won't install on a 68030 machine without some special hacking, so a stock CC is out.

Step by step VGA mod instructions are linked to at the CC FAQ

Any possibility of reducing the risk of analogue board failures should be taken into account. Those things are hard to come by.

What is IIRC, and will 8.1 install on the 575 board in the cc without modificatin? I thought the only thing the vga mod did was get you the 640x480 results. I really only want to run the cc with the faster board so I can run ms flight simulator faster. will ms/fs run on a 575 board at the non 640x480 resolution?

IIRC is short for "If I Recal

IIRC is short for "If I Recall Correctly."

I don't know anything about requirements for MS Flight Simulator (some programs require 640x480), but this bit from the CC FAQ should answer your question about installing 8.1 *without* doing any 640x480 mods. I haven't done it myself though (my mystic has the vga mod):

http://colourclassicfaq.com/mobo/mystic.shtml#Q2.1.3

In other words, it appears that you must do *something*, either in software or hardware, to run a 575 board, you can't just swap it in.
