Metallic Paint

Any recommendations for brands? Rust-Oleum seems to be popular among my cursory google searches; would this stuff work on a G3/233DT's beige case fairly well, or should I try to track down stuff designed more for plastic?

No, no, nonono. Regular paint at best doesn't work well and at worst will chemically destroy the underlying plastic's colour and texture. I highly recommend using a special plastic paint.

See, that's what I figured, and such is why I asked. Any recommendations? I was thinking of some of the translucent Krylon (like the stuff used on the cherry-apple Mac).

If you apply a primer first,

If you apply a primer first, the plastic will be much more resistant to ordinary paints.

I'm sure I tried the link before I posted it, just because a lot of my old bookmarks go dead, but now I get nothing at that site.

Crap. That was about the best case-painting site I've seen.

You can still read the text - but see no pictures - using webarchive.org.

I use random spray paint with good results

I follow two basic rules plus a third basic rule...
1. lots of coats
2. let the paint dry for 2-3 weeks before reassembly (sometimes longer, my rule of thumb is if you can still smell paint when you stick your nose on it wait longer)
3. use a clear coat after you are done with the color, then coat it with clear again.

although I've used random paints with good results the best seem to be paints designed as an enamel for furnature and appliances. Of course I only use what paint I have around from construction jobs and the like so I have no experence with paint designed for plastics.
