that neither the Lisa 2, not the Mac XL display their respective names on any visible areas of the case? Somebody really hated that computer ... Thanks -- interesting stuff.

I layed my hands upon an XL one time. I don't remember if it really said "XL" but I'm sure it did say "Macintosh" on it. That was over 5 years ago and my memory is fuzzy up until 5 seconds ago so...

Then I have never seen a picture of a real Mac XL. Try an image search for "Apple Lisa" or "Mac XL" and you will find many site claiming to be a Mac XL. But none of them say anything front or back to otherise identify them. Curious. There must have been many more Lisa 2s, which obviously had no ID, and they all upgraded to Mac Works software which is essentially the same thing as a Mac XL. From what you say though, the thing that makes it a true Mac XL is the Macintosh label. Otherwise it's a Lisa 2 running Mac Works.

Like I said it was years ago and at the time I just glossed over it because I didn't know the real value. I kick myself every time I think about the $15 it would have cost to bring it home... Something in my memory is nagging that it just might have said "Macintosh XL" somewhere (front or back?) but again, it was long ago. I recognized it by the formfactor at the time, but I don't recall if I specifically knew it was an XL over a Lisa right off.

I have 2 working Mac Xl computers in my closet. make me a reasonable offer.

What an offer ... but I wouldn't feel right offering less than $200-$250 which is probably more than what I can actually afford for such a extravagance.

Great! Can we have pictures so that we can settle the debate about the "XL" labeling? I'm not sure of my memory of what I saw as I wasn't trying to remmeber it at the time anyway. Pics of the case and the innards would rock! Being "real" XL pics instead of Lisa pics labeled as Xl would do alot of good.
