Terminal is borked - won't open new window

PowerPC Macs

For some reason Terminal (OS X 10.2.6) has decided that it won't open a window when I launch it or start a new shell. There is one session open which refuses to close. It too has no window.

THe program is probably locked up. Did you try force-quitting it? Some services, like menus, will still work when the main program has crashed. Cmd-Opt-Esc will bring up the Fordce Quit dialog.

Yes, I have tried force quitting it. That was the first thing I tried. I've also tried opening new windows, changing the preferences, setting them to universal, then quitting, then force quitting. I've also tried going through Process Viewer and killing any processes I could identify.

I still have one invisible session whenever I start Terminal, and any new sessions I open are also invisible. This really has me stumped, and means I can't do a bunch of important stuff I need to do in the command line.

iTerm

Downloaded iTerm instead. It's a much, *much* groovier terminal. But now I'd like to find out how I can assign it as the default terminal program?
