Handheld display scratch removal

Hi All,

Glad to see applefritter is up and running again!

After using my handheld the other day, i noticed that there were a few, light scratches across the display. I'm not to concerned about it but for the purpose of asthestics, I was wondering if there is anything you can use to reduce the 'noticability' of scratches and marks.

Perhaps newt' owners would have a super secret product that they might be able to share with the rest of the world.

There are polishes available

There are polishes available for both polycarbonate and lexan that might work.

If the surface wasn't shiney to begin with you're screwed.

If you're "screwed", find some screen protectors, you'll most likely appreciate how they cover up(to some extent) & prevent more scratches.

Thanks for that info. I like the idea of polishing the display.

The screen has a shiny finish so it may make for an interesting weekend project.

I did buy a box of 'el cheapo screen protectors a few months ago. But after a while they began to bubble and loose their stickyness which made it a little difficult to 'tap' with.

wax on, wax off

I used Johnson's paste floor wax on a couple PDAs, and it does an amazing job of hiding small scratches and wear marks.

Rub it onto the screen with a bit of cotton fabric, let it dry to a haze, then lightly buff it until the screen is clear.

I'd guess you could use car wax just as effectively.

And I'll second (or third?) putting on a screen protector after you've treated the scratches.

A quality non-adhesive screen

A quality non-adhesive screen protector is the best. I have one for my Treo that is static or something cling, and it's great.
