IDE Drive Problem in Takky
Greetings,
well, let's just say that I'm stumped - again. I've got a 20GB drive which has been lying around my house useless for over a year now, ever since I've upgraded to a larger one. I thought I might give installing it into the Takky a shot, since it is spposed to use IDE as well as SCSI and from what I've been told, most if not all IDE drives "should" work on Apple Computers.
I've given it a shot ... the system won't detect my drive. I've disconnected both the internal SCSI hard disk and the external SCSI CD-ROM drive just to make sure that there aren't any complications (which shouldn't occur anyway), booted from floppy and Mac0S 8 CD (with CD-ROM connected), all without any success. Zapped PRAM. Could it be the drive itself - is it too new? Is there anything that I need to be aware of in order to be able to use a IDE drive in a Takky?
Hope there's someone out with an answer... cheers!
Benjamin
-- BTW: It's a Toshiba MK2018GAP; a laptop drive with a 2.5" to 3.5" converter - tried it in my PC and it booted from the disk without a hitch. The disk is fast as hell and very quiet. I'd put it to use somewhere else if had another "big" machine.
