 <title> MicroWar 1.0b3
 (mwar.hqx)</title>
 <link>http://www.applefritter.com/node/14088</link>
 <description>MicroWar (update 1.0B3)
--------------------------------
µWar is a Space Invaderstyle arcade game in the cruel micro-computer industry.
You are an Apple Computer faced to Wintel hordes.
Move your Mac around at the bottom of the screen using your arrow keys, and fire your weapons at the advancing hordes of substandard PC clones that are invading your world. At each level, the PC horde moves faster and faster. Flying saucers drop bonuses and death marks from the sky: avoid the Microsoft and Intel marks, and rush to collect the Apple and Motorola ones. This update includes better FS handling and more bonuses. In addition, the game is a little harder, and graphics have been enhanced.

This update correct a bug that make PowerMac G3 to run µWar too fast and add background screens adapted from Apple's ads.

 <title> Catch The Buzz 2.0
 (catch-the-buzz-20.hqx)</title>
 <link>http://www.applefritter.com/node/14280</link>
 <description>Date: Mon, 8 May 1995 13:26:31 +0200

Catch The Buzz is an arcade game that looks like Tetris but where
the goal is entirely different: you must catch a little nasty
moving beast called the Buzz.

It should work on any Macintosh with any recent version of the system.

What's New in Version 2.0?
Version 2.0 is a total rewrite of the program. The principles of
the game did not change but the animation is now MUUUUCH better,
thanks to the SAT package from Ingemar Ragnemalm. The game is
now in color but it should also work on black and white screens.
Some graphics and sounds also changed.

What Else?
More information can be found in the program itself.
Don't forget that this is a shareware program...

Have fun!

<title> UHS for MacOS 4.0 - Game Cheat Application (uhsmac40.hqx)
 (uhs-mac-40.hqx)</title>
 <link>http://www.applefritter.com/node/14219</link>
<description>UHS for MacOS 4.0 is the premiere Universal Hint System reader for the Macintosh. The Universal Hint System provides step-by-step solutions to puzzle-based games, like graphic adventures and role-playing games. Hints are revealed only as you need them, beginning with subtle clues and ending with the complete solution. UHS for MacOS 4.0 gives you access to all of the hint files on the UHS web site (http://www.uhs-hints.com), including over 100 files for Macintosh games!

Features:
---------
- Support for PowerPC and 68K.
- Hints for over 100 Macintosh games.
- Support for all UHS formats.
- Support for embedded images (requires QuickTime 3.0).
- Easy conversion of UHS files to Game Doctor prescriptions.
- Comprehensive online help and help balloons.
- Commercial look-and-feel at a shareware price.

Where Can I Get UHS Files?
--------------------------
UHS files are available at several locations on the Internet, but the best place to get them is from the offical UHS website at &lt;http://www.uhs-hints.com&gt;. Check this site often for the newest files and UHS-related news.

Since most of the UHS files you download will be in ".zip" format, you will need a utility to "unzip" them. We recommend a shareware utility like PKZip, or a commercial utility like Stuffit Deluxe.

Warning: Some utilities provide the option to strip non-Macintosh characters from text files if they originate from a different platform. Since UHS for MacOS uses UHS files in their original format, you must disable this feature or the file will be damaged. For example, before you use Stuffit Deluxe to unzip a UHS file, open the Stuffit preferences and set the "Convert files to Macintosh format" option to "Never".

What Is Game Doctor?
--------------------
Game Doctor is a collection of game enhancements (called "prescriptions") developed by Illume Software. Currently, the collection contains over 400 prescriptions, with specialized viewers for hints, cheats, patches, and walkthroughs. Game Doctor is available on our website at &lt;http://users.aol.com/illumesoft/illume.html&gt;.

How Do I Contact Illume Software?

<title> Les Héros de la Tour Noire - a game scenario for S&amp;S 3D
 (sd3d-tournoire.hqx)</title>
 <link>http://www.applefritter.com/node/14543</link>
<description>The attached file contains "Les Héros de la Tour Noire", a French
language scenario for Sword Dream 3D. This is the scenario we suggest
that players try first. Version 1.0.1, French. Contains release notes.
Requires Dream v2.1 or greater.

Sword Dream 3D is a fantasy adventure gaming system. Old role playing games
had you play over a boring 2D map. In Sword Dream 3D, your surroundings are
in three-D (just like in Marathon, Doom or Descent). Still, this isn't a
shoot-em-up videogame: it's a think-first, act-later game.
Sword Dream 3D is a full adventure gaming system, and is endless and
modular by design. Dream allows players to download new adventures and
continue their adventuring inside the new mileu.

Full details on Sword Dream 3D (along with the application itself - in
English, French or Italian) are available at http://www.comenius.com/dream/
English and Italian versions of this scenario, along with all other
available scenarios can be downloaded from
http://www.comenius.com/dream/scenarios.html

The game scenario can be freely redistributed on the Internet, inside
CD-ROMs and via BBSs.

<title> Space Mercs 0.9.5 - public beta release
 (space-mercs-95.hqx)</title>
 <link>http://www.applefritter.com/node/14450</link>
 <description>Obligatory-hyped up-over generalizing-catch-phrase:
"Space Mercs takes the fast-action pace of Space War and meshes it with
the endless variety and economical factors of Scorched Earth to formulate
a one-of-a-kind game available only for Macintosh."

The goal of Space Mercs varies depending upon which game set is being
used, but usually you are trying to make as much money for your nation as
you can. The player that makes the most wins. To make money, your
nation has dropped you off into a distant mining zone. You are to scuttle
around picking up the ore deposits that appear. After an ore deposit is
brought on board, your processing equipment starts refining it. Once
complete, the valuable extract is beamed home; your nation cashes in, and
rewards you with some credits of your own.

The mining zones are located in disputed space, and you will most likely
find miners from other nations competing for the same ore. Fitted with
weapons, you hope to at least defend yourself if not swipe some ore
harvested by others. When your ship is destroyed, your emergency eject
device sends you home where you are fitted with another ship. Soon
enough, you'll be back to try and redeem yourself. When a zone is cleared
out and all ore processed, you return home. If the expedition was good,
you should be able to refit your ship in preperation for the next trip...

All of these sets were made with the built-in editor. With ease you can
alter any aspect of the game: weapon damage, mass, engine power,
everything! Also, in the resource fork of your game set, you can store
alternate graphics and sounds to give your game set a thematic flare.

System Requirements:
  * 256 colors
  * 13" monitor or larger (supports 640x480 and will use 832x624 if possible)
  * 4MB RAM
  * CPU: not sure about this one yet. 040's should work fine, low end 030's
might not. Let me know how it goes, and I might look into some more
optimization.
