<description>Early copies of SCSIProbe - a critical troubleshooting tool on SCSI Macs - are getting surprisingly hard to find, so when I came across this copy of 3.3 today, I thought it important to post it.

For the sake of those trying to use Google to track down an old copy of SCSIProbe:

 <title> Termulator - a mac terminal emulator
 (termulator.hqx)</title>
 <link>http://www.applefritter.com/node/15521</link>
 <description>Date: Wed, 8 May 91 16:31:53 EDT

Termulator is a terminal emulator that supports:

-scripting
-vt100 emulation [I use it with emacs on unix boxes successfully]
-xmodem, zmodem transfer protocols [but not kermit!]

It's shareware, and I got it from Genie. It's in a CompactorPro
SelfExtracting Archive.

Here is a utility for the disk compression program SuperDisk.
Downloaded from Compuserve. From the doc file:

The SuperDisk! Utilities serve several purposes. They compress SuperDisk!
files tighter by trying different compression options and selecting those that
offer tighter compression and faster performance; they convert other kinds
of compressed files to SuperDisk! compressed files; and they back up your
most recently edited files (coming soon.)

 <title> CMarker
 (think-c-cmarker.hqx)</title>
 <link>http://www.applefritter.com/node/13272</link>
 <description>Date: Tue, 3 Sep 91 01:31:08 -0700

CMarker 0.6b1

I am posting this on behalf of the friend of mine in England who wrote it.

This is an invaluable utility for Think C.

It places a little button next to the close box in the title bar of each source
file window, and when you click on it, a menu of all the functions in the file
drops down. By selecting a name from the menu, it will automatically move to
that function. It makes it incredibly quick to find your way around source
files, especially large ones.

The other useful feature it has is to do with comments. C comments do not nest,
so if you have a block of C full of comments, and you want to comment out the
whole block, then just naively putting comment marks at the beginning and the
end of the block will not work. CMarker allows you to select a block of text,
choose the 'Comment' command from the menu, and it will comment the whole block,
in a way so that the embedded comments don't mess it up. When you later select
the same block again, the menu option changes to 'UnComment' and it will
reverse the changes it made.

This is all it does, but it does it job extremely well. It is unobtrusive,
reliable, and doesn't take much memory. I like it because it does what I
want, and does it well, instead of doing 100 things poorly, which seems to
be the case with so many utilities these days.

This utility has been tested successfully with System 6.0.x and System 7.
It was written for THINK C 4, but works fine with the new THINK C 5.

 <link>http://www.applefritter.com/node/12295</link>
 <description>Date: Sat, 19 Jan 91 11:52:52 EST

SitExpand 1.01 is a freeware utility to decompress StuffIt 1.5.1 archives
(those with file type SIT! -- it doesn't work with the SITD files produced by
StuffIt Deluxe and StuffIt Classic). It is written by Bill Goodman, the author
of Compactor. It has the same creator type as StuffIt, which allows it to
automatically open when such an archive is double-clicked (but it should then
only be used if you *don't* have StuffIt, which is a shareware product).

This program is small enough to run in 512K of memory, but if you don't have
the Hierarchical File System (HFS), you will need to install the HD20 INIT in
your System folder. This can usually be obtained from Macintosh user groups or
&gt;From on-line services such as Compuserve.

NetWize v0.9.5 - AN APPLETALK MANAGER FOR THE MACII
              ---------------------------------------------------

Oops, sorry forgot to set the memory size for multifinder (700k+), its
should be fixed now.

Since a lot of people have asked for the MacII version even before it
was completed I decided to release it in this state. It is mostly
functional, those bits which don't for one reason or another, have had their
menu's disabled. This is not a feature that you will have topay to get hold
of its just that they are not properly completed yet to my satrisfaction. You
may think that most of this is unsatifactory, well you have your opinion
I've got mine.

There is a simple online HELP system provided, but functions mainly to
state what is available and what is not. What is available I hope you have
fun with, ie Network maps, Internet Lists, ECHO that works, Node Histories,
Zone Statistics, Responder etc.

Once again thanks for all the kind words in tha past year for ATM v04
and v05.

<title> [*] Kid Pix - freeware paint application for kids (and adults too)
 (kid-pix.hqx)</title>
 <link>http://www.applefritter.com/node/13664</link>
 <description>Date: Sat, 17 Aug 91 14:40:07 EST
Organization: Connecticut's Business School

This is Craig Hickman's freeware version of Kid Pix. There's a commercial
version that supports color paint and enhanced features. This version IS
a full featured black &amp; white paint program compatible with System 7 (at
least in 24-bit mode without using VM). It was written in Nov 1989 so I'm
surprised that 'archie' couldn't find it in any of the 685 archives it
searches. Maybe it came and went two years ago? A father recently asked
about Macware for children and this is a first rate example. Other parents
may want to download Kid Pix and some adults who don't often need a paint
program (like me, for example) may find that Kid Pix satisfies their few
requirements.

HQX'd Compact Pro archive.

 <title> AppleTalk-Manager-0.5
 (appletalk-manager-05.hqx)</title>
 <link>http://www.applefritter.com/node/14962</link>
 <description>Date: 13 Nov 91 10:33:00 CDT

                           APPLETALK MANAGER v0.5
                           ----------------------

Fixes for demo version ATM 0.5:

1. Now creates its own Network Data folder if its not found, this means you
can run ATM from anywhere on your disk. The program will not bomb if
    this folder is not found.

2. The Application memory size has been pre-set to 750k, this allows ATM to
    run under Multifinder.

3. The "Echo" function has been improved. Echo as an implementation under
DDP does not seem to work in the prescribed manner in "Inside Mac"
Vols II and V, and also Inside Appletalk. I have developed an algorhthym
that takes care of about 99% of ECHO, some errors still occur but very few.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ATM 0.4

This little program was developed as an exercise, just like a lot of
other peoples I guess. In the writting of this program I learn't that there
are a few untruths or things just plain left unsaid. For instance you would
think that all Macs and LaserWriters would have AEP (AppleTalk Echo Protocol)
built in, this seems not to be the case.

When you activate this program and after the Mac has finished making its
report of the network, you can double click on the desired node in the list
and 100 packets are sent to that node using AEP. AEP is a possible test of
the line quality between nodes, this is not strictly true, ie. if a PC node
is buisy packets can be lost and therefore alter your interpretation
of the results.

The display consists of Bridge data, Zone data, currently visible
entities, an AEP dissplay and two fake boxes. There are also a couple of
fake menus, as you will see the interface kind of evolved in the writting.
Its a simple matter to remove the unwanted stuff.

The program sorts all the NVE's (Network Visible Entities) Alphabetically
and by Node address, other information is provided along with these files,ie,
numbers of nodes, data and time etc and Zone plus Bridge data. The program has
been of use at this site because there are well over 150 NVE's to deal with.

I would have liked to implement a graphic load averager, but I get too
buisy these days to sit down and concentrate on it. Anyway hope its of use
to you, I can be reached (312)-702-3674 (work) or (312)-955-1932 (home). My
