QVT is a DEC VT220 Terminal Emulator for the Mac. It works well under both
System 6.0x and System 7.0. QVT supports international diacritical
characters and most file transfer protocols such Kermit, Xmodem, Ymodem,
and MacBinary.

This is a slightly improved version of the skim Unix program recently
posted by Craig Nevill-Manning &lt;cgn@kauri.cs.waikato.ac.nz&gt;. This version
also inserts the necessary 'cd' and 'get' commands so that you can feed
the resulting script directly into FTP.

I have sumex-aim in my .netrc file, so that all I need to do after the
skim is to type the following command to get the tagged files:

This is a new version of skim.c, a C program to ease the process of
downloading programs listed in the info-mac digest.

The latest modifications allow the site to be changed to a mirror site, and
the directory accordingly. Thanks to Robert Watkins (bob@nutmeg.cs.ntu.edu.au)
for these additions!

 <title> Terminal 2.2

 <link>http://www.applefritter.com/node/15520</link>
 <description>Date: Mon, 13 Apr 92 23:55:11 -0700

Attached below please find version 2.2 of Terminal,
written by Erny Tontlinger.

I have tested that the program compiles correctly and runs. I can be
reached as bob@beamlab.ps.uci.edu. I'm sending this in via dialup slip,
so any "from" address in the header won't work.

Here is the author's description:

Terminal 2.2 compact powerful serial communication program. Scrollable
capture buffer. Continous capture to and send from TEXT file. Software or
hardware handshake. XModem, YModem, ZModem, QuickB file transfer. Automatic
MacBinary format recognition, offline extraction, creation. Builtin C
interpreter executes scripts from TEXT files (modem-setup auto-logon BBS).
Text string macros. Program is free. C source available.

Source is included, and I might add that Terminal 2.2 supports the
CommToolBox under Think C 5.0.2.

 <title> 1stBBS Remote User
 (first-remote-user.hqx)</title>
 <link>http://www.applefritter.com/node/15052</link>
 <description>Date: 13 Apr 92 13:28:00 EDT

Hello netters.

In my search for a BBS that our local MAC users group could use on our LocalTalk/Ethernet/Broadband system I ran across 1stBBS.

It is kinda a long story but those of you who "remember" 128k of RAM might remember 1stBase, the first (I think) relational database for the MAC. That company (resold) still exists (sorta, their primary business is TUBING FABRICATION) and offer an inter
sting line of communication products that might be of interest to MUG's and Mac BBS operators.

Attached is the remote required to access the company's (1stDESK) "FREE" BBS via 800 number. 1-800-232-4283.

Good Luck.

Norm

INTERNET: nsteffen@tecnet1.jcte.jcs.mil

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

The whole thing must really "MAC LIKE" because I got it running before reading the READ ME which is also attached.

After UNBINHEXing and UnStuffing. Double click on the "1stDESK Settings" Icon. Then edit the two "Settings..." (User &amp; Connection) selections under the EDIT menu.

CONNECTION Settings:

You gotta figure that one out yourself but is is really pretty "MAC LIKE" :-) if you know how your modem is set. You will have to modify the number dialed if you going through a PBX or such.....

USER Settings:

The system password is not used.

You pick you own USERNAME.

-&gt;It is requested that users who get this from info-mac and down
-&gt;stream use the password "norm" when initially configuring. This
-&gt;will aid 1st Desk in a head count they want. After your initial
-&gt;access feel free to change you password.

Have Fun

<title> [*] UnARJ 2.21 Decompression Utility for the Mac
 (unarj-221.hqx)</title>
 <link>http://www.applefritter.com/node/12322</link>
 <description>Date: Mon, 13 Jul 92 21:49:53 -0400

[The following is the .doc file with UnARJ 2.21 for the Mac:]

Unarjmac is a simple port of Robert Jung's unarj.c to the Mac. It is a MINIMAL
PORT; that is it makes absolutely minimal use of Mac features. The reason for
this was to minimize the intrusiveness of source code changes into unarj.c,
which will make future updates by Robert Jung easy to keep up with.

UnarjMac does not currently support macintosh path names or creator/type
application linking. Therefore it must be run from the folder your arj file is
in.

Assuming you have the file archive.arj in your folder with unarj, to process the
file you must first launch unarj. You will be presented a dialog that will let
you specifiy a command line that will be accepted by unarj. The command line
operations available are:

        UNARJ archive[.arj] (list archive)
        UNARJ e archive (extract archive)
        UNARJ l archive (list archive)
        UNARJ t archive (test archive)
UNARJ x archive (extract with pathnames)
	UNARJ (display help screen)

Questions about the Mac implementation may be sent to Eric Larson at
1:260/330@Fidonet. [That's Eric.Larson@f330.n.260.z1.fidonet.org for
you Internet users.]

This is an ARJ demonstration program and ** IS NOT OPTIMIZED ** for speed. You
may freely use, copy and distribute this program, provided that no fee is
charged for such use, copying or distribution, and it is distributed ONLY in its
original unmodified state. UNARJ is provided as is without warranty of any

This is a basic Tektronix and vt100 terminal emulator with support
for Tektronix 4010/4014 style line graphics. It's fairly old
and may or may not be compatible with later hardware and systems
(It does work on an SE/30 running system 6.05.)
but since a recent search of the archives turned up NO shareware
or freeware Tektronix emulators and since it will be referenced
in the forthcomin FAQ for comp.sys.mac.comm I thought, I'd upload
it. $50 shareware.

This is an FKEY that produces a list of files in any THINK C project
that can be saved to disk or printed out. This can be useful for
archiving project information, should a disk copy get corrupted.

New in this version:

 - '040 cache compatible (duh!)
 - lists files in correct order
 - produces per-segment totals
 - optionally produces alphabetized list of files in project

This hack is free.

Enjoy,

This is a summary of the *excellent* response I received about Smalltalk on
Macintosh which I thought I should post back to INFO-MAC. I have also
individually posted the people who actually sent the replies.

All replies have been edited by me for clarity, so I take responsibility
for errors etc. Opinions expressed belong to the original author.

Between posting and getting the replies back, I contacted Xerox EuroParc and
Xerox Parc to find out whether the 'inventor' of Smalltalk (Adele Goldberg)
still worked for them. They pointed me to her new company, ParcPlace Systems.

Below are some comments about ParcPlace Systems version of smalltalk, including
a reply direct from a ParcPlace Systems employee (good to know they are on the

Please replace the copy I originally sent you with this one. The partition

self-extract on my machine (and presumably other people's as well). This
isn't very serious but it could be inconvenient. Please do not change the
blurb or information that comes with it.

Thanks (sorry)

This is a new version of Marker Control, a control panel that causes
files in THINK C to be marked and their window positions saved.

NEW VERSION v0.6b
% Fixed a bug where if you had the "Only Mark Files Newer Than:"
option OFF and moved a window without making any changes to it,
it set the modified date of the associated file to some time
    in the early 1900s.
% Made it so that window positions and sizes are saved even if
you close the windows with "Close All" or by quitting THINK C.
Before, they were only saved if you actually used "Close" from
    the File menu.
% Now functions that contain function prototypes as parameters are
    marked.

Executive Summary
-----------------
% Save window positions in THINK C.
% Mark functions in source files.
% Drop RMarker ControlS onto your System Folder and restart.
Open the RMarker ControlS control panel to configure its operation.
% Run THINK C and notice the difference.
      - Window positions are saved (open a file, move its window,
close it, reopen it to try this out)
      - Command-click on the title bar of source file windows to
see a list of the functions in that file.
% #pragma mark &lt;yourLabel&gt; // to mark things other than functions
% #pragma markOff // turn marking off until the end of the file or a #pragma markOn
% #pragma markOn // turn marking back on
