Hi!

After I saw the recent request regarding auto-ftp scripting I decided to
submit my currently used solution as a small contribution to the net.

Enclosed is a set of QuicKeys (now called "Shortcuts") that I use for
(mostly) automated ftp downloads from both info-mac and mac.archive.
Consider it a working prototype; modify as needed. See the enclosed text
file for details.

Requirements:

- QuicKeys 3.0 (need the conditional branch features)
- BBEdit (I use version 2.2.2)
          the shortcuts could be easily modified for another grep-able editor;
(I guess Nisus would be ok, Adam :-)
- Fetch (I use version 2.1.1)
- Mac hooked up to the Internet one way or another; I use MacPPP via modem
(otherwise ftp won't work quite as well :-)
- Patience connecting to info-mac or mac.archive via ftp ;-)

I would enjoy getting e-mail from people who use this little hack. Please
let me know if you come up with useful improvements!

Enjoy,

Klaus

Enclosed is an ARA file for the AT&amp;T DataPort 14.4/FAX. I wrote it and used
it to transmit this file. It has been tested with the AT&amp;T DataPort 14.4/FAX
but should work with any of the DataPort models.

P.S. This is the first file I've ever posted to an ftp site. Let me know if I
did everything correctly.

                      AT&amp;Tccl.sit.hqx
This is a CCL for the AT&amp;T Paradyne Comsphere 3810 modem. Actually it's a quick
hack from the Hayes Smartmodem 2400 but changed to allow access at upto
14.4kbaud. I had to write this quickly as we needed it for our Shiva LAN
Rover-E so I haven't used any of the modem's advanced features (but apparently
ARA does it's own data compression etc, so these may not be required). This CCL
has not been written by AT&amp;T and hence it is not approved by them (but it still
works!).

 <title> ARA+ 1.03 (ARA communication utility)
 (ara-plus-103.hqx)</title>
 <link>http://www.applefritter.com/node/14907</link>
 <description>Date: Thu, 30 Dec 1993 01:28:14 +0100

Here is the latest version of ARA + (v 1.0.3) by Benjamin Herrenschmidt.
This is a very useful addition to Apple Remote Access I use everyday
because of the automount feature (though I also have QuickKeys).
It is also compatible with ARA 2.0.

ARA+ 1.0.3 is a US$ 20 (FF 100) shareware and Benjamin can be reached
at benh@tatooine.fdn.org

-----
ARA+ is a little application (it uses 120K of RAM) which displays a
status bar. This status bar contains the state of AppleTalk Remote
Access along with some way to control this state: if your are
connected to a remote host, you have a "Disconnect" button on the
right of the status bar, else you have a popUp of connection files.
This popUp if configurable.
The status bar has two position "small" and "large". "large" is the
default one and can be changed with the little switch on the left of
the window.
When in "small" position, if you are connected you have the connection
time and the little "D" button, if you are disconnected you have only
the popUp. In "large" you always have the popUp or the button with
full title AND the status message.

ARA+ adds many features to ARA: It knows some AppleEvents: you can
establish a connection and disconnect with AppleEvents. A little aete
resource allows you to use these AppleEvents with AppleScript. A future
version will implement more AppleEvents.
There is a "Smart disconnect" feature (enable by default) which will try
to unmount all the remote AppleShare volumes before disconnecting.
ARA+ can add volume mounting informations to connection files in order
to automount these volumes when a connection is established.

 <title> [*] ARA Client Version 203
 (ara-client-203.hqx)</title>
 <link>http://www.applefritter.com/node/14904</link>
<description>Abstracts from files in info-mac/comm/ara as of Sun 20 Mar 2005

Date: 8 Jul 1993 17:28:49 -0500

Enclosed is a Binhexed Compact Pro file containing the excellent AppleTalk
Remote Access Client version 2.03 by Ron Duritsch, which I downloaded from
America Online. Version 2.03 fixes a CCL menu bug. This should replace
/communications/ara-client-20.hqx.

The following is the author's description:

"ARAClient is a control panel/application maker that adds value to AppleTalk
Remote Access. It adds several features that save time, keystrokes, RAM, and
add
a measure of security. Most users could care less about the details of
telecommunications, they just want to get connected. This utility provides a
one-step connection scheme that promises to let users forget all the details of
network telecommunications. Users must be using system 7 as well as have
already installed Apple's AppleTalk Remote Access software. ARAClient, and the
Connector applications it makes, are intended to be used in place of the Remote
Access application that Apple provides."

This file has been checked with Disinfectant 3.2.
This file must be converted with BinHex 4.0.

 <title> src/pascal - Morpion 1.0.0
 (morpion-100-p.hqx)</title>
 <link>http://www.applefritter.com/node/13135</link>
 <description>Date: Fri, 3 Dec 1993 17:30:00 +0800

This is the Pascal source code for Morpion v1.0.0, a simple
solitaire game, initially designed by Henri Lamiraux.

The source code contains lots of interesting stuff:

Demonstrates the usefulness of building library routines (only
three of the included source files are particular to Morpion).
Support for the core AppleEvents
Support for FMenus which make you menu locations independent
of the code that implements them.
Supports for the TextToSpeech Manager.
Demonstrates OO techniques for implementing windows as objects.
Code for reading your own Version resource.
And lots of useful general purpose routines.

You can use this source code for any non-commercial purpose.

Hope it is useful to someone,
   Peter. &lt;peter.lewis@info.curtin.edu.au&gt;

 <title> Mousebroken 1.0.1 (source code)
 (mouse-broken-101-c.hqx)</title>
 <link>http://www.applefritter.com/node/13136</link>
 <description>Date: Tue, 7 Dec 1993 00:16:40 -0500 (EST)

Mousebroken is a control panel which will give you greater control over your
mouse (or less control, depending on how you look at it). It comes with 13
mouse modules, each designed to alter your mouse's behavior in a different
way. New mouse modules can easily be designed and added to Mousebroken. The
mouse modules in this archive are public domain; feel free to design your own!

The Mousebroken control panel is free and is distributed under the GNU
General Public License. This archive contains complete THINK C 6.0.1 source
code and project files for the control panel. This archive also contains
source code to 13 sample mouse modules and a blank module prototype (quite
well commented, too); these modules are public domain. If you do not have FTP
access, e-mail the author for a copy of the control panel, the source code, or
a list of other programs by the same author. The address is f8dy@netaxs.com.

Version 1.0.1 fixes a bug that caused the error dialog box to be displayed
incorrectly on black &amp; white Macs. This version of the control panel should
work on any Macintosh, under either system 6 or 7. Some individual mouse
modules may have problems on systems with multiple monitors. Please report
any bugs/comments/suggestions to f8dy@netaxs.com.

This code demonstrates the in's and out's of writing a control panel,
advanced file maintenance, INIT installation, preference file maintenance,
notification through the Notification Manager, VBL installation and removal,
and the correct way to access Quickdraw globals in a control panel.

Mousebroken 1.0.1 is copyright 1993, Mark Pilgrim, MerriMac Software Group.

 <title> StuffIt--UnStuff/PC.EXE submission
 (unstuff-msdos.hqx)</title>
 <link>http://www.applefritter.com/node/12325</link>
 <description>Date: Mon, 15 Mar 93 16:24:11 CST

Hi,

I just got my registered copy of StuffIt Lite 3.0.5. Inside the disk there are
a few goodies besides StuffIt Lite and StuffIt Expander like StuffIt &amp;
Frontier, CPT2SIT(3.0.3), UnStuff/PC. The last two pieces are not in the
Info-Mac archive as I checked on Mar. 15 '93. So here is the submission for
the second one, UnStuff/PC in binhexed, (StuffIt) self-extracted format.

The following is from "ReadMe on Macintosh".

&gt; "UNSITINS.EXE" is a DOS executable self-extracting archive that contains
&gt; UNSTUFF.EXE. You will need to move "UNSITINS.EXE" to a DOS machine. Now you
&gt; can send StuffIt archives to your friends who use DOS compatible machines!
&gt; UNSTUFF.EXE enables users of DOS compatible machines to extract files and
&gt; folders from StuffIt archives from 1.5.1 to 3.0.

Regards,

Liu

 <description>From macmod Thu Sep 30 09:07:07 1993

This self-extracting archive contains UnStuffIt 3.0.7, a freeware
application from Aladdin Systems.

UnStuffIt joins segments &amp; expands archives from StuffIt versions 1.5.1 to
3.0.7. It can also expand StuffIt SpaceSaver files, without SpaceSaver being
present.

UnStuffIt is ONLY for users who send SpaceSaver files or StuffIt segmented
files to people who do not have StuffIt.

To only unstuff files found online, download StuffIt Expander instead.

[Should I even try, I wonder...]

Here it is, MultiSession 1.04. Various subtle enhancements to
the interface.

It now works on a whole THREE architectures:
SunOS, Ultrix, and HPUX.

The schpiel: MultiSession is a multiwindowing terminal program
with error correction. You compile the UNIX part and run it,
and then you can open several windows.

PLEASE send all mail regarding this program to tomlaw@world.std.com!!!
