 <title> c++advio: Advanced i/o &amp; arithmetic compression classlib
 (advanced-io-cpp.hqx)</title>
 <link>http://www.applefritter.com/node/12796</link>
 <description>Attached is an updated version of c++advio, an advanced i/o &amp;
arithmetic compression classlib, Mac distribution. Please replace an
old version
        info-mac:/dev/lib/advanced-io-cpp.hqx
which you currently have. The most significant change is a 4-line
tweak with sharing of an i/o buffer (which became necessary as CW8 has
changed the way virtual classes are destroyed). The current
implementation hopefully gets rid of these specific dependencies for
good. All projects and the library are recompiled with CW8. For the
first time it became possible to use PowerPC alignment of structures
in the CW projects that use C++ streams (it crashed before).

c++advio: Various advanced i/o codings of streams of integers
Keywords: arithmetic coding, start-stop coding, endian i/o, compression
Hot points:
        - variable-bit coding of sequences of integers
          (including the Arithmetic compression)
        - explicit endian specification in dealing with integer streams
        - a trick of sharing a stream buffer (a "file") among several streams
        - with a validation code to verify everything
        - with a commented source and CW8 projects
Please see a README file for more details.

<title> AGMenu 1.0: Enhanced Guide Menu management
 (ag-menu-10.hqx)</title>
 <link>http://www.applefritter.com/node/12797</link>
<description>AGMenu is a small library which manages the Guide (or Help, or Balloon
Help, or Question) Menu for you, letting you stash your application's
Apple guides in their own folder, out of the way of inquisitive users.
AGMenu places your guides in the correct locations in the menu, and uses
the same criteria that Apple Guide 2.0 uses when decided which guides
should be included. Integrating AGMenu into your application is trivial
and can often be done in less than an hour.

Further information can be found at

    &lt;http://www.tiac.net/users/tree/AGMenu.html&gt;

NB: AGMenu is not an Apple supported product.

Peace,

 <title> MacSense June 1996 BW
 (mac-sense-96-06-bw.hqx)</title>
 <link>http://www.applefritter.com/node/15945</link>
 <description>MacSense June 1996. Volume 3, Issue 4.

It finally happened! IBM has licensed the Mac OS! June's MacSense reveals the
details of the monumental deal. Also in this issue: Apple's latest introductions,
including "speed bumped" Power Macs and new upgrades. Not to be outdone, both
Power Computing and DayStar have debuted new Mac clonesãwith Power's new
PowerTower clocking in at 180MHz!

MacSense is a little on the heavy side this month! In addition to our regular
content, we've include two new QuickCharts to give you a side-by-side comparison
of Apple's latest products. Also in June's issue: Did you know that your
PowerBook 5300 can talk AND hear? See AppleBits for the nitty gritty. In Brave
New World, John N. talks offers a few choice words about commercial software.
Meanwhile, over in Cerebreality, Greg Kramer ponders how very virtual virtual
reality actually is. The Game Warden has stopped whining long enough to write up
a column entitled "Happy Happy Fun Day," and, finally, Jim Hines weighs in this
month with an article exploring the mystique of Apple's "1984" television
commercial.

All MacSense readers who use Netscape will be pleased to see our new "Launch URL"
feature. In AppleBits, QuickBits and NetBits, you'll now find a URL-launching
button adjacent to stories which include URLs. To use, simply make sure your
Netscape application is open and connected to the Internet. Then, from within
MacSense, click on the desired URL button.

 <title> FirstClass Utility Stack v1.2
 (first-class-utility-hc.hqx)</title>
 <link>http://www.applefritter.com/node/15050</link>
<description>FirstClass Utility Stack v1.2 is a HyperCard utility stack I've written
for the use of administrators of FirstClass systems.

It does the following:

1. Searches through your server logs looking for a particular phrase.
2. Compares lists of FirstClass conferences.
3. Convert gateway desktop listing into FC UUCP "alias" file.
4. Convert gateway desktop into text file.
5. Create a "batch admin" file that will create all the conferences in
the list, and give an alias to gateway desktops.
6. Create a "batch admin" file that will give an alias of existing
    conferences to gateway desktops.
7. Sift through the FC UUCP "To:" folder, looking for mail.
8. Count the number of times an attachment has been saved.

 <title> NetCacheResolver 0.9d6 source
 (net-cache-resolver-09d6-c.hqx)</title>
 <link>http://www.applefritter.com/node/13143</link>
<description>The package includes the source code of NetCacheResolver
application, written in C language with Code Warrior DR 8.
NetCacheResolver application program is also bundled
into the NetCacheBack package. So, you do not need to
download this package if you have NetCacheBack package
or you have little concern in Macintosh programming.

NetCacheResolver is a helper program to NetCacheBack,
which converts the 2.0's CCache log datatabe of
Netscape Navigator to that one of 1.1N's Cache log.
NetCacheResolver is an AppleScriptable application,
such as responding and directly sending back the
resolved records to NetCacheBack.

* Changes since 0.9d5, October 26, 1995
(1) Yesterday (oh, what is today?:-), I encountered an
Unidentified Field Object in the CCache log database. This
latent field, which I called "export", was an unexpected one,
though I think most users may not have suffered from it.
NetCacheResolver failed to resolve it properly. I fixed it.

Requires System 7.5 or later. Or, the scriptable Finder
and other Scripting Additions.

NetCacheResolver is a freeware program. You can distribute
it without any limitations nor permission.

 <title> MacSense May 1996
 (mac-sense-96-05.hqx)</title>
 <link>http://www.applefritter.com/node/15944</link>
 <description>MacSense May 1996. Volume 3, Issue 3.

Apple's going to post a $700 million dollar loss for this quarter--and it's
actually a good thing! Find out why in May's MacSense!

May's issue is busting at the seams! This month we introduce a new feature
to help readers activate embedded URLs without having to copy and paste!
(For more details, see below.) Open MacSense and learn all about Apple's
new direction, the MessagePad 130, two new StyleWriters and a low-cost
Color OneScanner. A trip through our 'Bits sections will teach you about
Apple's new VP, The HP ScanJet 4P, Macromedia Director 5, Shockwave,
Netscape Navigator 3 beta and much more. This month, John Nemerovski has
left his Brave New World, and his loving wife fills in. Jim Hines muses
about Apple's tenacity for self abuse, the Game Warden looks high and low
for Mac sports games, and Cerebreality considers the reality of flame wars.
May's issue also offers a System 7.5 Update 2.0 Special Report to help get
you up to speed with the new update. We've also got reviews of Claris
Emailer 1.0v3, Eudora Pro, The Black Box, You Don't Know Jack and Total
Distortion. Finally, Editor in Chief Chris McVeigh eyes Microsoft's efforts
with Internet Explorer--and fears for Netscape.

All MacSense readers who use Netscape will be pleased to see our new
"Launch URL" feature. In AppleBits, QuickBits and NetBits, you'll now find
a URL-launching button adjacent to stories which include URLs. To use,
simply make sure your Netscape application is open and connected to the
Internet. Then, from within MacSense, click on the desired URL button.
