Macintosh IIci, no boot up.

I recently got a Macintosh IIci. There's a problem with it though, it doesn't start up, it's dead cold. No PSU fan, no light, no hard drive, no chime, nothing, as if not even plugged in(it is plugged in by the way). I've tried changing the PRAM battery, no work, both keyboard and machine power button, no work, and the PSU is fine because I tested it in another machine. I do not have an official Apple monitor to connect to the machine, only a converter, from mac to VGA, which I can't get working with any other machines except my G3 AIO. Does anyone know what could be the possible problem?

SE/30: logic board (bad capacitors?)

I recently got the much dreaded simasi mac upon booting my SE/30. According to everything I'm reading on line, this is most likely due to bad capacitors as they have a tendency to leak over time (or to just go bad due to age). There is one man on 68kmla who is selling capacitor kits for very cheap (starting at $10) but I have no idea about soldering. Does anyone know someone who would do it for me, OR does anyone have some helpful tips for doing it myself?

So What are you guys collecting these days?

I have been collecting macs for a few years now, while I still snag some machines offered to me (mostly ppc and a couple compacts) I don't seem to be looking very hard to finish my machine collection (still want a 9600, 9150, II, IIx).

Most of what I have been looking for are Nubus cards I don't have, and video editing setups for Nubus and early ppc machines. Also trying to finish up my Mac Apps/Utils collection (so I have legit copies of everything I would want to use).

What are you guys looking for?

SE video card

Hi, i was recently given a SE with maxed out ram, and a additional video card installed. It has the standard VGA connector as well as the apple 15 pin video connector. I was wondering if anyone has an idea what this card could be. I know this is not an SE/30, but a plain se, and i didnt know they made external video cards for it.

Anyone have any ideas?

What happened to CJS Macintosh?

I've had my vintage macs repaired several times there by the very knowladgeable John Sawyer and today wanted to get in contact with him again. Sadly I came across some posts from people who stated (and I verified) that his phone number is disconnected and his website is offline, one person even stated that up to the point of the number being disconnected they never got a SE mac they dropped off and still have not gotten it back (was dropped off apparently for data recovery). CJS Macintosh seemed to be doing very well so what happened? Hopefully the worst has not happened to John Sawyer?

Free Performa 630 with CD, 32MB upgrade, replaced hard drive, new Asanté Ethernet [New York City, ZIP 11104]

Hi folks. I want to give away this Mac that I rescued and fixed a while ago.

It`s been sitting unplugged for a while, so the PRAM battery might be dead, so I will give the taker a spare, also for free.

I just put in a new [yes, new-old-stock] Ethernet card [since it didn`t sell on eBay :-(]. The driver disk is included [I stuffed it inside the computer to make sure it doesn`t get lost; it`s easy to open - the only tool you need is a normal-sized Phillips screwdriver].

I live in Sunnyside, which is not far from the Queensboro bridge. Anyone reading this is welcome to pick it up. Since it`s only a 630 [i.e. no built-in monitor], you could even use public transit. It`s not really that heavy or that big.

If interested, please e-mail to me at "abe149 at gmail" [you know what to do].

BTW, if anyone reading this [but not personally interested] has an account at 68kmla.net, would you please cross-post this for me? I want this Mac to go to a good home, not to the garbage.

One last thing: if this isn`t taken by early September, I will have to toss it [unless a local charity will take it.] My apartment is too crowded with machines I don`t even use.

4GB SCSI for Performa 460

I've finally got around to fully upgrading my Performa 460 with a 'new' 4GB SCSI hard drive. The problem is, it doesn't want to boot from it.

I started off by copying everything from the Performa 460's 80MB drive to a 100MB ZIP disk. Then, after formatting the 4GB drive to HFS Standard in a 8500, I copied everything over to it (this included the system folder from the 80MB drive). I put the 4GB into Performa 460 and nothing happens. Well, it does show the flashing question mark floppy icon meaning it can't find a startup volume. The light on the drive does show access right before it declares it can't find anything to boot from.

Am I missing something? I had to format the 4GB with the 8500 because I have no external case with which to connect it to the Performa.

Dayna Serial Ethernet Adapter How rare is it

So I was rummaging around the MSU Surplus barn and found this Dayna Serial Port Ethernet Adapter.. Any Idea how rare these things are.. I cant find anything about it online. It came in its original box with the software floppy cables and manual. Seems it will work with SSW 6 up to 7.5.5. I managed to put my Mac SE online with it.
