to run timberman for apple 1 on windows you need an apple 1 emulator. the 2 popular ones are mame and apple1 js. mame is faster and more accurate but harder to use, however if you follow the instructions it should be manageable. mame: 1. download "timberman.wav". 2. visit mamedev.org/release.html and download the exe. 3. open the exe and extract to a folder on your computer. 4. find a rom of apple 1 for mame online (should be named "apple1.zip"). 5. open the folder you extracted mame to, then open the "roms" folder. 6. move "apple1.zip" to the roms folder. 7. go back to the folder for mame and open "mame.exe". 8. scroll to "Apple I". 9. at the bottom of the screen click "General Settings". 10. click "Input Assignments". 11. click "User Interface". 12. find "Show/Hide Menu" and "Toggle UI Controls" and note their respective keybinds. 13. the default for toggle ui should be "scroll lock". if your keyboard doesnt have scroll lock: click "Toggle UI Controls" and press delete, then double click "Toggle UI Controls" and press a key/multiple keys, like ctrl+f12. 14. press escape 3 times and you should be back at the first screen. 15. double click "Apple I". 16. double click "Start empty". 17. an info screen will pop up. press any key. the apple 1 monitor should show up. 18. press scroll lock (or the keys you assigned in step 13). a message will pop up and say "ui controls enabled". 19. press tab (or the keys you assigned for show/hide menu). 20. double click "File Manager". 21. double click "cassette (cass)". 22. find the place you put "timberman.wav", then double click "timberman.wav". 23. press escape twice. you should be back at the apple 1 monitor. 24. type "C100R", enter. the monitor should print "C100: A9*". 25. type "300.5FFR", enter. 26. press tab again. 27. double click "Tape Control". 28. double click "Play". you should hear a beep followed by some noise. 29. when theres no more noise, double click "Pause/Stop". 30. press escape twice to go back to the monitor. 31. type "300R", enter. the game should load. if you cant do all that, then use apple1 js: 1. download "timberman.wav". 2. visit scullinsteel.com/apple1. 3. click "RESET" on the virtual keyboard. 4. type "C100R", enter. the monitor should print "C100: A9*". 5. type "300.5FFR", enter. 6. just below the monitor, click "Load". 7. open the folder containing "timberman.wav". 8. drag & drop "timberman.wav" into the large white rectangle. 9. click "OK". 10. wait for the red bar below the monitor to fill up. 11. click "RESET". 12. type "300R", enter. the game should load. to play the game you have to use ',' and '.', not arrow keys. the apple 1 doesnt have those. and if you still dont understand how to play, go play the original timberman first.
