Just got an Apple ][+ and have some questions

Got this yesterday and I have some questions. I see a number of differences from my IIe. The previous owner has stated that he took out the RAM chips and reseated them all (incorrectly at first as they were not all facing the same direction, I'm not sure what the effects of this would be) and he apparently took one of the ROM chips out to reseat and broke one of the legs off. I am assuming that fixing these items should be fairly easy?

I noticed that the RAM chips were made by three different makers... is this common? Also, the serial number sticker states that this model came with 16K but there looks to be more than that on the motherboard, or am I wrong?

It didn't come with the power cord either, so is there any magic to replacing that?

Last question (for now), in the picture of the keyboard, there looks to be another board under the keyboard and it has a sliding black switch on the right hand side... what exactly is that?

Thank you,
Roger

Probably not catastrophic, but I'd check every chip's orientation - sounds like you're dealing with some incompetence there.

Yes. You can probably find new ROM firmware online, but some creative soldering will get you going in the short term.

Yes. Memory was upgraded, sometimes slowly, by individual owners. It was expensive back then.

You're right. See above.

No. Assuming you're in a 115v (i.e. not 230v) locale.

It switches between needing the control key to be held down in order for the reset key to actually reset (or not).

Re: Just got an Apple ][+ and have some questions

I looked and found the ROM chip with the busted leg... it says "Apple78 D8" on the top. I looked on eBay and couldn't find one that matched... any ideas as to where I could source one of these?

In an effort to keep this as original as possible, I'd really like to replace this with the exact same chip... you can see the chip in my first post!

Thanks,
Roger

The part number of the chip you're looking for is 341-0012.
