both should be ok ... nearly all IDE/ATA/SCSI optical drives are cross compatible ... as are the hard disks ... but they will need to be reformatted to HFS+ format for use on the mac

I noticed when I had installed my 20 gig outta my old dell into my g3, it read the NTFS partition fine, made it easy when copying files. The Same works with fat 32, so if your running MacOS 10.2 or later it will work fine
