skipping every

anyone know how to get my ipod to stop skipping through the songs. once i choose an album to play, the ipod skips the first two songs and begins at the 3rd. then, continues to skip through until the end of the album. sometimes, it skips through the whole album and goes back to the menu. time to throw it out? i've had it for two years.
