I originally ran the Norse Wanderer BBS in Pacific Palisades from 1983 to 1987. It started on an Apple II+ running ProDOS, with an AppleCat 212 modem, supporting one caller at a time at 1200 baud half-duplex or 300 baud.
I've since resurrected the Norse Wanderer as a working website. This isn't an Apple II emulator running the original code; it's a modern recreation of the original BBS logic, menus, and functionality.
The latest addition is Telnet access, making it possible to connect with a terminal program and experience the BBS in a more traditional way. telnet www.norsewanderer.com 2323
The original Apple II disk images survived, thanks to copies made with ADTPro, and I'm continuing to explore ways to preserve and share this part of early online history.
If you remember the BBS era, I'd love to hear your stories. If you ran an Apple II BBS yourself, even better!
