I just bought an apple IIe at a thrift store. There was an imagewriter 2 printer on the shelf next to it. The printer's plug was circular, with several prongs inside. I could not find a matching socket on the back on the IIe. Am I correct in thinking that this printer is incompatable with the IIe, or should I go back and buy it. Thanks.
. . . you can absolutely use an Imagewriter II with a //e, you need a serial card (preferably the Apple brand Super Serial Card) with the female version of the small round connecter (mini din 5 ?) that you describe. Several software suites written for the //e take advantage of the ImageWriter II, including Appleworks and The PrintShop. BTW Apple //c's have this card "built in" with the same connector.

All the Super Serial cards I've seen have a 25 pin connector not a mini din 8 connector

My memory was incorrect, the standard connector is a 25 pin. He needs a 25 pin to mini din 8 converter cable. I was thinking of the //c and //c+, and Mac's, and IIGS's.
BTW, it's called the Super Serial card because it has two modes; modem and printer, changeable by removing the IC chip on it that has the triangle symbol, rotating it, and reinstalling it.
