Thank you, Uncle Bernie!

After a few months of break and a some "trips into the KIM-1 replica world", I finished building my second Apple-1 board today.

It's a Newton-Byte board equipped with one of the last of Uncle Bernie's famous kits.I strictly followed Uncle Bernie's instructions when setting it up, and also followed his advice about the reliability mod. Apart from a small soldering error (...oops!), which I only could find after several attempts, there were no real problems.

The board has been running apparently perfectly for a few hours now, but I haven't been able to do an extended RAM Test yet. I'll do it in the next few days.

We have just discovered again in our small "fan group" here in Germany that it is not a given that you can easily get an Apple 1 replica to work "out of the box".

I would like to thank Uncle Bernie all the more for his support, his numerous helpful tips, and also for putting together such a great parts kit, which runs smoothly and reliably immediately after assembly!

Nice build! I am sure you

Nice build! I am sure you have enjoyed the process.

Correctly, what you showed is a "Newton-1" board, which is pre-NTI or non-NTI version. It is also one of the last boards I have.

"Newton-Byte" is the clone of Apple computer A or Apple 1 prototype and is in brown color without soldermask. ;)

Oh yes, sorry for the mixup!I

Oh yes, sorry for the mixup!

I was probably a bit hasty.

I'll try to build the "Newton-Byte" board that I got from you along with this one in the next few weeks. Anyway, the board is of absolutely great quality and it was indeed a pleasure to equip it and of course to see that everything works.

The result looks - at least for me - absolutely great, no comparison at all to my first "Internet-Gerber" board.

NewtonMike's Apple-1 PCBs are

NewtonMike's Apple-1 PCBs are I think are about the best you can get.  I also highly recommend his Datanetics keyboard repros.

Yep...

I absolutely agree with you. This is a great keyboard.

Small addendum: the "Gen2 improved ACI" also runs perfectly, both in and out. .. with a working LED... ;-)
