TiBook minus LCD won't see CRT plugged into it

PowerPC Macs

So I pulled the LCD off my TiBook when the hinge died and have been using it just fine with a spare CRT I had. Well I'm in the process of trying to install OSX.4 and when I boot off the CD it sees the CRT as a second monitor and an extension of the main screen. Am I going to have to put my LCD back on for this?

theres a couple ways to accomplish this

theres a magnet somewhere that needs to be activated to register the main screen as closed then connect a external keyboard to make it go into clamshel mode.

google force mirror display. im sure there is a keyboard shortcut that forces output to the external monitor.

IIRC, it's Apple-F1. You could also connect the PowerBook to another Mac in Firewire mode, and install the OS update.
