Sometime today I will be asked to repair an HP Pavilion zd380us laptop. This thing is freaking huge - large enough to have a numeric keypad.

Anyway the laptop will charge a battery but when the unit is turned on the power light is on for a second or so then turns off.

I'm guessing a short on the motherboard, but who knows.

Any suggestions besides file 13 (trash)?

Will it boot if you pull the battery? I've seen laptops not boot if the battery goes south.

Never mind....

Apparently it's still under warranty so I don't have to mess with it.

From reading in various forums, this series of laptops has issues with heat dissipation.
