Powerbook G3 colored logo install question

Well, I'm doing a few simple mods for my sis's PBG3 Wallstreet, and I was wondering, do I need to take the display off the clutches to take the back off and place in some colored transparency paper? Apple's service manual says you need to, but most of the people here claim not. Let me know.

You don't need to remove the clutches from the display to do a logo mod on wallstreets, but you will need something to remove the white paint from the logo.
