How do I turn on a powerbook 667 logic board

Hardware Hacks

Hi,

I'm building a "Macenstein" from a 667 logic board. I have placed the RAM, hard drive, and dvd drive. I plugged the AC in, but there's no way to turn it on. How do I do that? Is there a switch hack?

Thanks,
Steven

Find the power button port

There should be a little two prong plug/port that the cable for the power button plugs into. Just short that (preferably by using a real power button) briefly and it should boot. This worked for my iBook.

power button

You are a genius...the macenstein lives! it lives! I found on the underside of the logic board.

Thanks

That will make a great mac :)

That will make a great mac Smiling It will also make a great machine for overclocking as powerbook processors when properly cooled can normally do some huge overclocks.

How is overclocking done on the 667?

Hi,
Several thoughts...
1. how difficult is it? I haven't done any motherboard soldering before :-(
2. which jumpers/resistors does one move?
3. what's the speed gain
4. what type of cooling would you suggest? I was going to add an aluminum heat sink to the processor...do I need more?

Thanks
Steven

Don't do it!

If you haven't done overclocking before, a laptop board is not the place to start.

Yeah, I answered so fast cause I learned about the power plug as I was trying to overclock my iBook and I needed to check it before reassmbly.

Oh, and I failed to overclock the iBook and in fact killed the mobo.

Sorry

I am sory to hear about your ibook. Thanks everyone for your input. I wil not overclock my logic board!
I'll post pictures - I'm planning to use 2 clear acrylic sheets and 4 acrylic rods (at the corners) and hook it up to an external VGA LCD.
