CD-rom not responding

OK so I installed a new CD-r/rw drive to my clamshell G3 ibook. I used the old cable and my system profiler even recognizes it. However, When I put a CD in it just spins and nothing happens. Is there a driver i need to download? Did I do something wrong? I love this little computer and I want it back to full power......

I am on OS 9.2 And music CDs

I am on OS 9.2 And music CDs spin for an ever shorter time time than data CDs do. I am looking for a driver but am having no luck....And I am using the ibook intaller CD so it isn't the fact that it is a CD-r that is causing the problem. The strange this is, my Apple system profiler lists it when I click on devices...

Do you have any OS X CD laying around? If you do, have you tried them yet?

no OS X CDs lying around. I l

no OS X CDs lying around. I looked under Apple system profiler and the only thing that looked fishy was the fact that is said "driver version: not available" But I can't seem to find anything to help with this problem. Any other Idea?
