3rd party cd/dvd recognition for boot?

Is there a way to make my iMac recognize a 3rd party cd/dvd drive for booting with diskwarrior? My internal slot feed cd drive is broken. The iMac g3 600 has no trouble recognizing the drive to read or burn, but does not recognize for boot using key commands.
Thank you.

Does it get listed as a boota

Does it get listed as a bootable drive if you hold down Alt at startup?

I was away for a bit

Thank you for the relies, sorry that I was gone for a while. No. It causes a flicker or two on the led on the front of the drive. Failing the ability to start up from this cd drive, is there a way to boot off of another imac then run disk warrior off of that second imac?
