VGA Sense line, Takky hack takes how long?

Hi,

I've just picked up a Color Classic - which came already running an LC575 board, with the Resedit hack and no 640 x 480.

First of all, it's time for the 640 x 480 VGA hack. But i'm confused with Chris Lawson's 'Step 3' of the hack, the sense line modification.

- it is nescessary?
- is it only applicable to 575 modded Classics?
- if I do the sense line mod, I won't have to re-do anything else when I perform a Takky upgrade, right?

I plan to install an LC630 board (for various reasons, it overclocks nicely - has PC 586-160Mhz compatibility card, and TV tuner) - and hence the Takky mod.

- How long does this take to do? I'm planning on doing it during my short Christmas break, but don't want to start unless I can knock it off in one day.
- Are there any snags going off the guide given - it doesn't seem to make any sense, but I'd imagine it will once I pull the CC apart.

Thanks all,

byrd.

That's right. Doing the sense-line mod on the analog board saves you from having to do it again if you swap logic boards.

How long does this take to do? I'm planning on doing it during my short Christmas break, but don't want to start unless I can knock it off in one day.

If you've got the right equipment, and have read over the directions enough to really understand what you're doing and why, then you probably can do it in a day. Well, maybe...you've got a lot of wiring and some plastic cutting to do.

It didn't work out that way for me. I made a poor choice in wire for doing the Takky analog board connector (I tried to use wire from a SCSI cable - it's too narrow a gauge), and finally had to re-do it with new wire. To your advantage, with a 630 you won't need a 3.3V line, so that'll save you a BIG step, unless you really want to add a second power supply.

Are there any snags going off the guide given - it doesn't seem to make any sense, but I'd imagine it will once I pull the CC apart.

A lot of it will become clear once you're up to your arms in it ;). The guide is tried-and-true, so if you've got a short deadline for doing this, I'd stick to it, and make any changes at a later date.

Thanks for your reply eeun.

Thanks for your reply eeun.

I don't really want to do the sense line hack on the A/B (looks dodgy!) are there any links on how to mod the 575 mobo, and later in a 630 board?
