Blue & white Apple Studio Display 17(CRT).
I hate these things... well this one here has an image that is about 2cm-3cm too large for the screen area, basically at any resolution/refresh the image is missing a few cms around the edges which is off the screen's border, get what I mean? Service source manual says to fix it with the OSD. All the size controls are set as low as they go... DUH, Apple, first thing I tried?!
Anybody got any clues? Might put a pic up later.
I believe it is used for setting the factory default H x W of the screen (this stuff is not accessable by non- tech people (in other-words: consumers) I am trying to get a hold of the startup cd that is used with the utility. (no reason, just want to try it on an iMac). Sadly, it is hard to get a hold of it. What I suggest is slip a twenty into the local Mac repair specialist's pocket and ask him (kindly) to do it for you! (be generous on tipping) Or, just send it into apple. (it will probably cost you more than bribing the local apple tech.)
I am the local Mac repair specialist. Clearly, it's not a good idea to own a Studio Display around here.
Background info: I picked this display up off the side of the road. Kinda shoulda known there'd be SOMETHING wrong with it. I think it's the main deflection board or crt/video board... but because the monitor cost nothing, it's worth nothing to me, so I'm not replacing either of those. Off it goes into the garage.
arent there 2 or 3 little knobs inside the back of the case used for hardware calibration?
On the CRT itself, there are 3 dangerous-looking adjustment holes, but Apple don't document them. From experience, I know not to stick things into the neck of a massive(...ish) cathode ray tube. They're labeled something like YV-1, YV-2 and YH... SOMETHING along those lines(it's 2 am so im not going to the garage and pulling that thing to bits to check up on that).
Anyone with experience in fiddling with those?
Are you sure there aren't four of the knobs? In most CRTs, there are a few for trapazoidial, a few for horizontal and vertical, parolleligram, pincushion, etc. My guess is the Yv knobs control vertical orientiation and size, and the Yh knobs control horizontal position and size.. if there was a second Yh.
I thought the adjustment pots were located inside the monitor. Hense you would need to remove the case and tweak them.
My monitor display "expanded" when it was about to die. Nice arks inside too...
