HELP! My Powerbook 145b Won't Turn On!

Hi all. I got a powerbook 145b for Christmas, and it won't turn on! I put in the power adapter, press the power button, and nothing happens! Pleas help me! If not, I have a dead powerbook! Thanks in advance.

Sincerely,
DanDaMan

145b

Hey

Look at the back of the computer for a power manager reset button. Usually it's thin and small. I can't remember off the top of my head whether the 145 actually has one. Hold it for several seconds and try again.

reset via apple

PowerBook 140, 145, 145 B and 170

1. Remove the AC Adapter and the battery.
2. Let the PowerBook sit without power connected for 3 to 5 minutes.
3. Using two paper clips, simultaneously press and hold the reset and interrupt buttons for 5 to 10 seconds.
4. Reinstall the battery and, if necessary, reconnect the AC adapter.

Note: Both recessed buttons (commonly known as the reset and interrupt buttons) are located next to the power button on the back panel of the PowerBook.

Thanks, but.........

Thanks for the idea, but it didn't work. Thank you for all the help. I guess it's going to the trash heap. Oh well. Better luck next time.

Whoa

Dumpster? Isn't that a tad extreme? Pull the battery and the AC and let it sit and then reassemble and try the power manager reset manager again. It wants to live. It wants to be obsolete and useless. Give it a chance to realize that it's merely a notch in the driftwood that has washed up on a distant shore of a technological backwater forgotten and alone and sparkless. Give it the spark, let it know that you have some task for it, some simple game to play or a database for your newts and efts or a storage bin for unanswered and ignored emails. Don't give up on the poor beast or someone will yank it from the trash and subject it to horrible laptop experments.

I second that.

My one complete PowerBook 165c will not turn on no matter how much I plead with it, but I don't throw it out- I like old 'Books, despite never having a use for them. It just sits on my Pile of Favourite Dead Computers(now 2.3m tall) in the garage. At least just keep the thing hanging around... part of it might come in handy one day.

Try starting it with the AC a

Try starting it with the AC adapter, and no battery installed.

One of my 1xx 'books won't start off AC if there's a battery installed. Evey single one of my batteries is very dead, though, and I've never gotten around to finding out if the problems in the batteries or the PB.

I Tried That Too

That's the first thing I did when it wouldn't turn on. I even let it sit overnight without the battery or ac power connected and it still won't turn on. I think it got damaged in shipping. I guess I'll keep it around for nostalgia. Thanks anyways though.

Try a different powersupply

If you have another powersupply, try to use that. Any powersupply from a 1xx series PowerBook should work (well, except the 190 and maybe the 100).

Don't Have Another

I don't have another power supply. This is my first powerbook, so that's all I have at the moment.

Well, if you have a voltmeter

Well, if you have a voltmeter you could try and measure the output from the powersupply. IIRC it should be 7.5 V. I strongly suspect that your powersupply is broken.

If it is the powersupply, or

If it is the powersupply, or about anything else, I probably have it. I have a 145 in parts just lying in a tub in the basement. Give me a shout.

Yay!

It was the power adapter. Thank you all for your help. I borrowed a power adapter and it booted right up. Finally, 1.44mb floppy disks! Thanks again.
