New Theme

Go to "my account" and take a look at the Applefritter theme. Any thoughts?

Good but...

It feels a little lacking. The metal look is nice but the top section feels a little too open. Maybe if the Home/Recent/Forums/ect links were inline with the logo (and they might be in some browser- I'm using IE 5 in OS X.1 if its a bug)

And in this theme there is ev

And in this theme there is even more dead space on the left. Blum 3 Visually I like the idea of it, but as g3head pointed out, it's too open.

EDIT: Here is a snap of it on my end where it's a good 2" wide on my ~10" wide screen:

A few thoughts...

There's a couple of things nagging me about the new theme.

1. I think there needs to be some more definition on the darker section with the AF logo and the top bar, possibly embossing the edges might finish it off.

2. I'm not wild about the "home - recent - etc.." in the center of the screen, if anything I think it might work better at a slightly smaller font size and right aligned (like it is with the default theme).

3. CSS needs tweaking to format replies in the same way as the default style currently does

But other than those two minor points it looks okay. BTW, are you going to update the footer to read Copyright 1999-2004?

Edit:

This is the kind of thing that came to mind (thumbnail, click for larger image)

Re: Good but...

Just taken a look at the screenshot in your photo gallery and, yes, that's an IE bug with the way in which it renders CSS - there's a fudge to fix it but it's not foolproof. IIRC it'll be doing something similar in IE 6 under Windows. I'll give it a decent browser check when I'm in the office on Friday.

Nice

Personally, I prefer things like light on dark. I'm not always a big fan of the lightly colored things, but this is nice. Maybe if I get off of my butt I'll figure out how to make a theme and design one that suits me.

Sidebar and Reply formatting

is it possible to have an option to display the different boards in the forums in the left hand sidebar?

could we add a header to the replies, with info on poster, date posted, and stuff like that?

what about a more solid border round the posts, and a light grey background to give them more definition from the background?

maybe some little connecting lines?

maybe I'm asking too much and should shut up now? Wink

could we move the smiley selection and bbcode bar to above the subject in the post reply view?

anyhoo, those are my suggestions, they appeal to my aesthetics.
