OS X Panther DVD's--Easiest way to convert to CD?

Hello Everyone!

I have just aquired a Cube--which I am using to create this post!--and I have a question. I own an unregistered copy of Panther on a DVD, but the Cube only has a CD burner. What are the options for converting the DVD into CD-R/RW? Is it as "simple" as making a disk image of the DVD on my iBook HD and then burning it to CD? If anyone has anything to share, please let me know. If it is too complex, or not possible for some reason, then tell me that too. I feel like I am being greedy. The Cube came with a full install set of Jaguar CDs, and is currently running 10.2.8 flawlessly, but I prefer Panther, obviously.

Thanks in advance for any input!

use your iBook in FWTDM

hold down the "T" key on the iBook when starting up. connect the iBook to the Cube with a FireWire cable. Put the DVD into the iBook, start the Cube and hold down the option key till it gets Startup disc screen. The DVD should pop up on the screen as a disc. click on the Disc and then choose next. It should then start off of the disc.

Excuse me, there, but...

This is a copy bought legitimately from OWC, thank you very much. If you don't know what you are talking about it would be GREATLY appreciated if you would simply butt out!

Thanks again, Coius, for the advice.

I think..

that when Jamie said "unregistered" he meant that it had never been loaded up and sent off the info to apple about the Computer. Remember that there is a setup intro that registers to apple as well as set up the accounts for the Computer

I'm curious what the point of registration is. I've never registered my Mac OS installations and have never noticed anything bad happening (computer-wise, that is!). Is the point just to give Apple information about its users?

Well, why even mention whethe

Well, why even mention whether it was registered or not? We happen to have a fair amoun of people come on here and ask about how to get pirated copies to work. As for knowing what I am talking about, I wasnt the one asking the question, that was you.

When I refer to not knowing what you're talking about..

..I refer to whether or not I am an honest person asking an honest question. I say it is unregistered in an apparently vain attempt to diffuse the type of accusation that you are making. You don't know me or anything about me--which so far seems like a plus--but the nature of sites like this one should be helpful, not accusatory. I have been here for a while, and I have done or said nothing to make you think that I am dishonest. I have been a witness to, and in some cases a part of, the attempts of folks on this sight to thwart people who are "up to no good" so I am aware of the things that can happen. But when someone asks a legit question, don't knee-jerk yourself into situations like this.

You really should not give people such hard time just because they might use the wrong phrase or reference when it comes to these topics. I obviously thought that "unregistered" meant something different than you think--or know--it to mean. I didn't know what I was talking about regarding the subject of the original post. But now, not only am I on the right track with regards to that, I also know a little it more about the good and the bad where some of the contributors to this sight are concerned. So...thanks, Stuka!

It wasnt ment in a personal w

It wasnt ment in a personal way. But when you constantly see people come in ask for help on getting pirated software to work (here among other places) you learn to expect people to be asking about that unless otherwise shown. Your right, I dont know who you are, or know you personally. If I did, I obviously wouldent have said what I did, as according to you, you dont do that. But, since I dont, I take the reverse standpoint until proven otherwise.

I see your point...

...and I am wary too. Right down to spending money to buy things from posters on this site and others--haven't been burned yet, but never say never!

I get where it comes from. It just rubbed me the wrong way, that's all. After all, it is dillegence that keeps the site "clean" for those of us who want to continue to participate in these online communities. I guess I am just a little short sighted when it comes to protecting my personal image. After all, this being an online community, it follows that no one really "knows" anyone else, so caution should be the watchword.

Bygones. I hope that you are of the same mind.

Oh sure. As I said I didnt me

Oh sure. As I said I didnt mean it as an attack. I only know one person here real well, a few others just from correspondance on here. The rest I havent a clue Wink As this site has lots of visitors. Its not like XLR8 (the other place I post) where there is a set group of people since registrations have been disabled for years. Which makes for a nice community where everybody knows everybody Wink
