Just booted up my Takky for the first time in a while. Everything was fine until I left it unattended for a while. The screen went black - as it's set to do in Energy Saver. BUT, I couldn't get it to come back on/wake from sleep.
Okay, no big deal, restart. Machine rebooted fine, except the screen is still dark.
Okay, shut down. Cold restart. Machine rebooted fine, but still no video onscreen.
There's no crackling or other unusual noises from the video circuitry. Everything seems right as rain, except the screen has gone black and won't seem to revive itself.
Ideas?

Zapped the PRAM, which didn't work either.
Turned the machine off, via rear power switch, then booted from external CD-ROM drive. Video came back up.
Trashed Energy Saver Prefs on the boot volume, shut down, restarted. Everything okay with video.
Set Energy Saver to Never Sleep - not ideal, but preferable to what I just went through.
I know that in the past this problem hasn't occured. Strange.

Check for cold solder joints on the analog board. My CC had this symptom and this was the cause.
. . . of this issue - I guess 4 years ago now. I don't recall a solution, only a work-around. Don't energy save, but do screen-save. No one in their right mind is going to run a Takky or a CC 24/7, in any case. If the screen dies will the Takky's running, then that does suggest a hardware issue - perhaps a solder joint as someone said.

Thanks for the tips. It could be a cold solder joint, but I'm guessing it's not. I've been using it regularly - including warm and cold restarts - and everything has been fine with the screen.
The screen didn't actually die so much as refuse to wake from sleep. I'm guessing it's just a software issue. I will use a screen saver rather than screen sleep, as you've suggested.

Hi all,
The PPC6500 that I will soon tear down to use for my CC mod is having same issue as Matt had... It will fall to sleep after a period of time idling (like while downloading more than 45 min.). It will wake up when I hit the 'Enter key' but the monitor have to be turned Off and turned back On again for it to come back with picture/graphics.
I'm using OS 9.1 and I'm affraid it will do that... once I'm successfully installed into my CC
Could someone please walk me through step-by-step of how to turn this "Energy Saver Mode" OFF?

Could it be a result of the VGA mod and the energy saver not playing well together? Perhaps when the energy saver tries to reactivate the screen, an incorrect refresh rate is used by default? No basis for this...it's all idle speculation of the best kind
Control Panels --> Energy Saver. Then in the Energy Saver CP, just set the system sleep to Never.

I had reset to "never" and 'unchecked' all option boxes in other tabs of Engery Saver menu.
Monitor settings had been reset back to 640x480 @60Hz. Problems resolved.
