Hack Powerbook to accept standard IDE?

I was thinking of hacking an broken powerbook 1400 CD module into a standard IDE adaptor. If I convert the special plug into a laptop IDE and then convert that into standard IDE I might be able to run standard devices...like a standard Burner...and also read my IDE harddrives.

Could it work?

YUP! Piece o' cake . . .

. . . if I understand you correctly, that is. ::)

AFAIK, you could just hack a standard Laptop CD-ROM Adapter into a gender changer/adapter board for your 1400 module's adapter. But why not hack a PC Card adapter to do the same thing and put something else into the CD-ROM housing?

How do you image tag a freakin' piccie on AF2.0?

PC Card ATA

Part of the PC Card standard is that it must implement an ATA interface for IDE drives. This is why flash cards work in PC Card slots - they act exactly like ATA hard drives. So, adapt the PC Card slot to accept an IDE drive. "That's easy!" as Sir Robbin would say.

Pre-built, commercial PC Card hard drive enclosures abound on eBay.

Peace,
Drew
