Panther CDs

OK, I finally got myself a copy of panther to install on my iBook, but it only had 2 install cds in the box, is this wrong? I have heard refrences to a third cd on various websites and was wondering about it. If it does normally have a third cd, does it matter that I don't have it?

cheers

Worked somthing out…

There was supposed to be a third CD, in the Readme first file on disc 1 it says so. Anyone know what to not click in the custom install bit of the installer (i.e. stuff on CD 3)?

I know X11, anything else?

Xcode

You're missing the developer tools CD. Join the Apple Developer Connection (free) and once you've signed in, from the Downloads - Developer Tools area download the v1.0 Xcode CD disk image, plus the latest updater disk image (currently v1.5).

Needed for install?

I found a site saying "Make sure you have disk 3 to hand while installing" or somthing. Does this mean it won't install at all without disk 3?

Thanks for the other tips so far…

The dev tools disk needed ONLY if . . .

you want to install the Developer Tools. Do you need or want to install the devtools? If your answer is "I don't know.", then plainly you do not need them.

Heck, you really only need disk one, disk two has a bunch of apps and drivers, stuff that mostly gets replaced upon your first Software Update anyhow.

I suppose…

…I only need to update stuff, but that stuff may be updated with stuff on disk 3(Like X11, that I have installed), or should I do "Archive and install" to be on the safe side?

The iBook is currently running 10.2.8

By the process of elliminatio

By the process of ellimination (and package size) I have deduced the following are not present on disk1 or 2:

Additional Fonts
Epson Printer Drivers 2
X11 User

Can someone confirm these are the only packages on disk 3 (or not)?

thanks

Tried… and Failed!

Ok, the installer boots up off the cd and i choose "Archive and install" from options. The it says if i do "Easy install" I don't need disk 3, so i choose install then it checks the disc and… fails every time.

First time it stopped at 8%, second (after cleaning) at 25% (so there is progress). I havn't got time to install it now so I'll get back to it next weekend. I think it just needs a good clean.

At least it failed before it started to install so my iBook still boots Wink

Thanks for all your help
