I just finished installing Tiger onto my G3 B&W. and it went perfect.. My G3 did not have a DVD drive installed and I did not have a DVD decoder card installed on to the Rage 128 card. I figured I'd try to drop a DVD-rom in and just see if it would install. and what do you know, IT WORKED. you see you only need the DVD decoder card if you plan on viewing Mpeg-2 movie files or DVD movie video playback. without the card, the machine only recognizes the DVD-rom as a bigger optical drive, so It will read and boot DVD dics fine just not movies.
Hope this helped. Now I gotta go and put my DVD-rom back in my wifes computer before she finds out I ripped it out of her PC.

Hi
I have the same configuration: a B&W G3 and Tiger, and yes... It work like a dream.
I have no problem viewing DVD's with the DVD drive and the standard Rage 128 card even if I'm "supposed to use the DVD decoder" to view DVD's
I use the DVD viewer from Tiger.
