Homebrew LG VX6100 USB phone charger

The way I made my hack is I took a old USB camera cable and cut off the non-usb end. Stripped the red a black wires. Because the other wires are the data cables. Then I cut off the car adapter end of charger and stripped those cables. Soldered them up and wrapped them in duct tape. Now I can charge my phone with my new Mac Mini without having to plug my phone into the wall!

PROBLEMS: The mini reconizes it as a USB hub. I just think it is a small, ignorable issue.

I will post photos later today!

UPDATE

UPDATE: The USB charger actually charges faster than the wall plug-in one. SWEETNESS!

And Timmyishot finds out that the orginal charger had current limiting built in....when his battery fails after a couple of weeks.

I was wondering, are the voltages the same?

Very close

The USB runs about .5 volts (or whatever they are for USB) higher than the regular car charger. The wall charger runs the same as the USB one. This mod also works for PSP, DS and any other charger that does not draw lots of power.
