CSI Question

Remember the 2-hour season finale directed by Quentin Tarrentino (sp)? I had it recorded through a TV tuner card to my PC's hard disk.

The first time I tried to watch it, one of the electrical outlets in the computer room decided to fail, and stopped power from going to half of the outlets in the room. This pretty much turned off all of my computers - my wife's was on the other side of the room. It also took out a power strip and a UPS.

Last night I was trying to copy the file to another computer to free up some space. The computer locked up and I had to power it down. Afterwards, the hard drive decided that it didn't want to work anymore - only 14 months after it was manufactured. I'm guessing the power problem helped here.

My question is this: did Nick make it out from being buried alive? While it would be a spoiler, I can't watch it now anyway so go ahead and tell me....

CSI spoiler

Hey,

Yes. Or at least I think so. I really like the show but I'm not a big fan of Tarantino who seems to dwell on anything other than content. As a result it was a pretty underwhelming effort all around. So Nick will be back next year. Let's hope Tarantino isn't. Now, don't you feel better?

Thanks for the info

I think I saw as far as when Nick was taken, but that was about it. To tell you the truth, I don't think I've seen anything directed by Quentin. From the sounds of it, I haven't missed much.

QT is good

I like QT films. his directorship on the episodes made them more dramatic for sure.

Anyways, here is what happened from when Nick was taken:
An evidence bag was left in his place containing a simple styrofoam cup. The bag was sealed and unsigned and a clue to Grissom that it was not Nick's evidence, but planted. Later that morning, a package was delivered to th lab via a clueless courier (stool pigeon), that contained an audio cassette (can't rememeber) and a USB dongle with some site address and a message. Anyways, they get the message that they must deliver $1 Mil within x (12?) hours or Nick dies. The link takes them to a live web feed of nick in the box. When they click on the link, the light in the box goes on and they can see Nick. Nick does not like the light going on because it is like Chinese water torture and, we later find out, when the light is on, the fan that provides breathing air cuts off. CSI was keeping the light on so they could see him not realizing this problem until Nick put bubble gum in his ears and shot out the light - which freaked everyone out 'cuz they did not get in until he lit up a glow stick and started huffing from the fan.

Meanwhile, the cup provided a clue back to a case some year or so back in which a youg woman was in the wrong place at the wrong time and some people were killed (gang thing) and the cup placed her at the scene and got her a 6 year stint as an accessory despite her maintaining her innocence. Her cell mate frequently pimped her out for lesbo sex in exchange for cigs. This of course changed the girl and hardened her quite a bit. The heart break this instilled on her dad was too much and he stopped coming to see her. From the visitation logs at the jail, CSI was able to piece some stuff together to want to find the dad to ask questions.

From the onset of the ransom demand, the crew was looking at how to raise money. Even Eckley (the prick) was trying to see how they could squeeze it out of the budget and make things work. Bottom line, he could not get the money. Katherinw went hat in hand to her father (while Eckley was trying on his own) and asked for help. He made her ask as his daughter, not a cop. She did (pride being swallowed) and got the money. Grissom got the info for the drop off and went to meet the abductor. Once there, he found a dead dog (source of the entrails that drew CSI to the abduction site at first) and was called back by a voice to another part of the warehouse. Once thee, it was the father (which we already figured at that point) and Grissom gave the money not tracking, no die, no nothing - just $1 Mil free and clear to tell them where Nick was - no trick on CSI's part. The father was impressed, but unmoved and blew himself up leaving them with little to go on. When cleaning up, CSI finds a panel in the floor that they open and dig down. There is a plexiglass coffin, but it contains a dead dog. They realize that this is a prototype for Nicks tomb. (by the way, it was not personal against Nick - they trap was for any CSI that took the bait).

At this point, CSI is stumped and time is running out. nick's bullet has fractured the case and sand/dirt and some sand/dirt fell into the case - and some fire ants! To the horror of everyone watching, Nick is being bitten by the ants. He stays calm and plug s his nostrils with fabric from his shirt. The ants now cannot get in the ears or nose, he lays still to keep them calm. Grissom identifies the ants from the web-cam as one crwals across the field of view. He figures that they are fire ants, which are not able to survive in Nevada as it is too dry for their liking. This means that they most be somewhere that has soil they like. They are able to track back that the fact that the daughter worked at a greenhouse. They tear off to that site and find where Nick is after some searching and diggin around an airhole tube. But they get an urgent call that the prototype is rigged with a preassure switch since daddy has an explosives expert. They douse Nick with CO2 from an extinguisher to get the ants off. They then hook a rope to his belt and dump dirt on him to muffle the explosion. As the dirt is falling, they all pull and he flies out as the charge blows staight up.

Nick is shaken and sore (we have those damn ants all over FL and they hurt like hell!), but not bitter. Everyone seems fine - no word on Katherine and her dad - the daughter is annoyed that dad is dead and Nick alive (but she never knew this was going on until CSI told her anyways) - Eckley wins a cool point (but only one) for trying - Grissom tells Eckley that he wants to put his old team back together and wants everyone back (can't recall if Eckley responded before the scene went black and the credits rolled).

It was a good episopde and the ant thing was freaky - more so if you have ever accidentally stood on top of a fire ant mound hidden in the grass and not realized until they are up to you knee (which takes all of 2.5 seconds).

And those are the details, in a nutshell...

BitTorrent?

Have you used BitTorrent to download your missing episode? Check out http://www.torrentspy.com for links to specific shows that you want to catch, and links to the client software that can make it happen.

I've been doing this with episodes of some of the shows I like to watch -- CSI & Lost primarily -- but never seem to be able to sit down to watch when they're aired. The files are pretty huge -- 350MB for a 1 hour show -- but the BitTorrent makes the download happen in a reasonable amount of time.

I'm lost too . . .

Hey,

CSI (the original. The one in Miami is Hawaii 5-0 with better music and the NYC one can't seem to find itself) and Lost are the only broadcast TV shows I go out of my way to watch. I don't have cable. Actually, I don't even have a TV. I have an AV card in an old beige. Being able to download these shows are a scary option. I do like Lost even if it's Lord of the Flies with back stories.

I think the Las Vegas CSI is the best of the three; by far more true to life and believable than the other two.

I also thought of the Lord of the Flies connection early on, but it's good TV. Seeing the interaction of the people and the flashbacks to their lives before the crash is great. About the only thing that I roll my eyes at is the hokey spiritualism that Locke is wrapped up in. His "faith" in the island, that it is what brought them there, and that the island has a purpose for all of them being there.

I wouldn't be surprised if the writers put together a closing episode that parallels the Dallas "dream" season, and the whole island experience is a dream that someone had when they fell asleep in-flight. But maybe that's just the cynic in me.

Hokey?

Hey,

Yeah. You never run into people wrapped up in hokey spiritualism in real life. Never happens. Hee hee. I agree but then again he did get on the plane in a wheelchair so go figure. Having said all that, I really like the show. I'm surprised that it hasn't sunk into the deadly TV traps already. But . . . like a lot of promising beginnings, we'll see if they can maintain it through a second season.
