Powermac 7200/90 question.

Hi, this is my first post here and I am wondering how to make web browsing more speedy without any hardware modifications. Is there a certain browser I can use, or a certain virutal memory setting I should put it on? I want to make some good use out of this old mac!

Doesnt sound like there is a whole lot more you can do. Maybe 9.1 if you can get it, but that wont make much of a difference. Getting off the wireless will speed things up too, but thats not always a possibility.

the 7200/90, a good vintage

I had one of those back when I was in school. It was a great little machine. With IE 5 and Mac OS 8.5.1, it was pretty slow. I found that if you set your browser cache to 1mb, it will speed up dramatically. With anything less than 128 mb, I honestly wouldn't mess with 9.

7200 mac

I had 7200/120 that I used on a dsl connection and the only way I could get any noticable speed increase was to ugrade the video from 1meg vram to 4megs vram and install as much memory as the machine could carry (512meg is the max) I think if you look around you might be able to find a cpu upgrade however that may not the speed you want for dsl. you can however increase the amount of mem the app uses (min 1megabite) i used two megabites and netscape 6,2, IE was to crash prone and upgrade to OS 9.1.

This worked for me until I got my G3 Mac and I am running OS X and safari. I hope this helps however as cheap as G3 power macs are becoming on e-bay go that route as most of them already have OS X on them plus plenty of mem

THANK YOU SOO MUCH. I set the browser cache to 1mb and it runs more than 10 times faster (seriously)! (This post is coming from it) *Is HAPPY*
