have some fun!

You've got a great opportunity to string along a spammer!

I'm guessing this would be the 'send money for my airfare to visit you' type of scam.

Do some reading here: www.419eater.com

Let us know if you play along and get some pictures (hmmm...how about with her holding a sign that says "Applefritter" Biggrin )

I think managed resistance is correct about the Dr. part - that's probably why you're the one who got tagged. We'll have to see if Doctors Bob and Webster are as equally appreciated.

:P

Are you serious? How could you support a site like 419eater? That site is a total joke! It's as racist as can be... You and I both know that a very small percentage of SPAM/SCAM email originates from Africa, yet these people target only persons living on the African continent. The very fact that these people deny a racist bias is outright insulting to any intelligent person that stumbles across their site.

Secondly, just reading the correspondence that they engage in causes one to immediately call into question their integrity. They offer absolutely no evidence of anything. What they do show, is that they're very skilled at doctoring newspapers, concealing their identities, covering their trails, and telling almost convincing lies. If anything, the people that operate 419eater are the TRUE scam artists.

And to top it all off, they have the audacity to ask for donations!!! Donations? Can you believe it? These are the same people that condemn the greed and financial desperation of folks living in Africa.

419eater is not a proactive measure against email scams, 419eater is a scam!

Just my opinion, but I'm confident that any person with half a brian will agree with me.

whoah, Nellie!

I have a whole brain and I disagree (with both halves).

419eater is about jerking internet scammers around. That's it. It is not their fault (as indicated in their on-line self-description) that most of the internet frauds (high 90% range) is committed by countries coming out of Africa, just as it is not theit fault that most telephone charge-back scams are committed out of the Carribean.

For those of you unawares, that is where you recieve a phone call from some 8xx number shows up on your caller id, or the number is circulated in the media (print ads, info-mercials, etc), or even dialed directly to you asking you to accept charges collect using a familiar name like Joe, or Sister Christina,... Either way, once you call (or accept charges) you are billed at around $500 USD per minute and there is nothing anyone can do as these are off-shore international rates set by the host.

Point being, race is not a factor at all. This argument implies that the perpetrators of said racism not be of the same race (unless you imply a "black-on-black" crime here, which is a very different can of worms). In order to make this calim of racism, you need a better understanding of the depth and bredth of those who screw with those who originate the 419 frauds. You do not. The 419 fraud targets everyone on the internet and spans all races and religions in its search for the gullible. Stupidipty knows no bounds so anyone could be a victim. 419eaters is all about fighting back. The very worst claim you could make is that the 419 eaters are xenophobic as race is not a factor and 419 eaters give bad names to foreign countries where these scams originate. But I do not think your argument there would be too strong as the 419eaters do not mention the countries except in their up front explanation of what 419 is and where the statisics indicate what the countries of origin.

For all we know, the 419eaters could be founded and operated by the NAACP out of the US with funding from Sudan, and other African governments. Can't prove a thing.

The only facts we have are:

It is not profiling, it is not racism, it is simple hook-and-bait taunting of the greedy and exploiting their lust for others moeny, their low morale threshold in obtaining that money, and their failure to master the language in which they prepetrate the scam (evidenced in the clever use of puns written on signs they hold up).

Your argument suggests that 419 eaters is wrong. Perhaps it is wrong to taunt and toy with those who seek to do wrong against us and do not realize that everyone is on to them. Your argument detracts from the fact that the person(s) committing the 419 fraud has done wrong in the first place. But I see no credible proof of racism or xenophobic behavior, just an implmentation of the fact that 'turnabout is fair play'.

I normally don't say this outright...

I normally don't say this outright, but you are completely wrong on this subject.

Let's begin with facts:

a) It is not a crime to solicit money for legitimate purposes. 419eater ought to know this; they claim to be doing just that.

b) You cannot just assume that a person is out to deceive you. You must prove that a person is out to deceive you. In this area, 419eater makes no attempt to validate their "assumptions".

c) 419eater, in almost every circumstance, expresses "shock" when they discover that the alleged scammer is Angel not black, or (b) does not have an African accent.

d) There is no evidence to suggest or support the claim that African people are responsible for the majority of email spam/scams.

e) Until a financial transaction takes place and there is an actual victim, no crime has taken place. 419eater, however, commits several crimes in the process of "baiting" these alleged scammers.

f) 419eater makes no attempt to verify the accuracy of the information they collect and present. They make no effort to determine whether the photographs they post are of the actual "alleged" scammers.

You're just so wrong on essentially every point you raise. I'm sorry, but you are just flat out wrong.

I mean you no personal disrespect, but 419eater is nothing short of disgraceful. It is an insult that you would even suggest that the NAACP would be funding or supporting such a sham.

EDIT: I just want to mention one other thing. I, personally, think that the people involved with 419eater are a bunch of losers! They quite clearly lack intelligence, demonstrate little regard for human life or values, have no regard for the rule of law, and clearly, they are driven by the exact same motives as their alleged targets: Greed!

I'll even go so far as to do something that the people involved with 419eater will not do: give my real name!

Enough.

"You're wrong."
"No, you're wrong."
"No, really, you're completely wrong."

Enough already. You wanna argue on the Internet, do it through PM. This is the wrong forum to bicker in.
