AV in AIO?

I will be acquaring an AIO on saturday, and want to know if it has AV standard. I have never worked with one and thought it would be cool to use it as a TV with a VCR hooked up

AIO

It depends if it is the school verison G3 powermac or the earlier verison AIO. I have the tuner and the card for the remote and several AV Wings cards set up for the TV tuner, Sorry no cables though

I have the parts you need for the TV/VCR thing and the most rez I've run is 1024X768 and thats with the 6megs video ram. I think it will do more. It uses the Gossamer logicboard Same as the G3 MT and DT. I have one I upgraded to a 300MHz CPU, 128 ram and the upgrade on the video. plus a AV Wings card.

I have it all if you need it

not ready to upgrade

not just yet, i have to get it first. I also am most likely to get a 400-500MHz G4 for it. The AV is not big. I will most likely get the 6MB's VRAM. Does the SDRAMM from the imac work in it?

If you're meaning the Video ram, yes it does. Regular mem is the 168pin dimms, up to 768megs

That's nice to know

It will be easier finding the VRAM for it.

I believe I have a few 256MB Dimms for it. I can throw that in, but considering it is already coming with 256MB's in it, i'm not sure how many slots are filled. Does the thing take PC-66? I have a 64MB in it too, if it does not have the RAM it is said to have.

Is there any possibility of getting OS X .3 on it? I have a family pack going to waste (i only have it on one machine, the other is on my iBook which came with it.) I know XPostFacto might help with this, but am not sure with the ADB (I know that the ADB drivers are still in OS X) and the SCSI.

Is the Zip drive SCSI for it? and is there a way I can shoehorn a 2GB Jaz into it?
This is kinda a cool find for me, as I could use a G3 with PCI slots. I am pretty sure that I will be putting a USB 2.0/FW into it. I might think of a G4 upgrade and maxing out the VRAM. Is this a ZIF slot that it takes?

What type of Wifi card should I throw in this thing? Right now I will be routing it thru my XP machine (*blech*). But it only has an 11Mb card in it. For the last slot, I might put a 10/100 Card in it (ethernet) just to speed up the Syncing betweem my ibook and the AIO.

What other thing can I throw in this puppy? I will most certainly love the big 15" screen

OK the 256meg memory sticks will work ok as the bus speed is 66MHz. OS X 10.2 will run on this machine, however if you want to use 10.3 Xpostfacto is a must and I have never heard of anyone having problems with the adb when they went to 10.3.

The zip drive could be a IDE or SCSI as for a Jaz drive unless you do some serious mods to the face plate it won't work. If you leave the face plate off I have no doubt it will work. A PCI card with both firewire and USB (2 ports each) works ok. I have one in a Beige G3. The CPU is a zif and the AIO has eithernet built in. It could be just a 10base T or it could be 10/100 as it was an option.

The AIO has a pull out tray with all the electronics in it and you only need to unplug one ribbon cable the power cable to the logicboard and one other cable all in easy reach. you release two latches and slide the assy out.

All the drives are mounted to the tray and the hard drive is under the logicboard in a nice easy place to get to (lots of room) no joke. The only bottleneck I can think of on the AIO is the onboard Video as it will only do 6megs video memory MAX even though it is an ATI chip set.

I almost forgot there are two screws in the back of the case that need to be removed before you can pull the electronics assy out. These are nice machines and its to bad Apple never sold them to the public, they were sold to schools only.

Have fun with your AIO

well...

I'm not looking to do much with this, 'cept maybe stuff in OS 9 and maybe some stuff in OS X. I just find that the SCSI will make my job a little easier as the only SCSI connection is my PC and I have had to turn down 1 customer that had a recovery from a B&W machine. Sadly, the B&W machine has died and they needed the data, and I couldn't do anything as my PC wouldn't recognize HFS+ (journaled) Even with MacFormat. So, this is just for the future.
How well will the SCSI device work under 10.3?

Got it!

Score one for the big man!
I have it installing 10.2 right now, as 10.3 refuses to budge. It comes with a "no CPU Save area".

Anyone know what this is about? I have used X PostFacto before, but not on a G3. This is a big find for me, and discovered it has 2 IDE channels and 1 SCSI. These are internal. The external is only SCSI. (duh!) soo... Can anything be done to remedy the situation with the "no Save" area? I mean, OS X .3 is my favorite of the X's. So I would like it if I could put it on it. BTW: this is a 233MHZ/4GB/24x CD-Rom/256MB Ram

I never heard of a no CPU save area. It maybe that 10.3 is unhappy with the 233 CPU and needs a faster one to load or it could be that the 233 has 512 cache and a 300 or 333 has 1meg. I really don't know. Maybe some one on the forum has run into this problem before and knows a work around.

Nevermind...

It's chugging along with 10.3 now, but slowely. After googling, i found that it needed to have the NDRV support (It forces 10.3 to use old and forgoten video drivers) and I now have it running

EDIT: I can't figure out how to do inline images. so you can go here:

A little snag

right after posting that, I had the machine kernel panic on me and the screen started flickering. Which means, it doesn't like the vid card. Any suggestions?

She's up and at it!

I finally got the thing on 10.3 It was very unstable at first until I got the 3.9 update onto it. IT runs like a champ. I did find that you can't have the L2 cache checked on at startup with XPostfacto. Also, you need the NDRV's checked (forces the OS X to use video drivers not normally considered) then just install from the CD. You will need to have the OS X partition within the first 8GB's (better yet, 7GB's)
One problem I have is that when it starts up, it is dim, but not so dim that you can't see the screen. If you go into the Colorsync calibration from the monitors pref pane, You can set it again at the highest setting. Then it will be bright. Also, the front audio ports don't cut off the internal speakers when a headset is plugged in. Which works out for me, as I can plug my subwoofer into the front, and it uses the external su for base, and the internal speakers for normal sound. If set right in itunes, it works great for audio!

I can listen to msuic and it jsut Fiiilllllsssss the room I think I got a good deal for $60 USD.
