is my hd stuffed?

How would i know if i need a new hd?

A few weeks ago both OS9 and OSX looped in the boot and i ended up just reformatting it and it all worked. But this week OSX started to loop again in the booting and then after i while it reckons that the drive needs formatting.

Disk First Aid, Disk Utility and Drive Setup all say its OK but will not mount it, or acknowledge there is stuff on it. I now get circle with a line through it in booting. OS9 gives some resart message.

Can i run a Hardware Test CD or something?
I think ill give in a format the drive but then how will i know if it's OK.

I have a biege G3 233

Thanks in advance.

I tried to format the hd but it doesnt seem to work. I tried to install OSX and 9 but both failed. The strange thing is that my external scuzzi hd that i thought worked perfectly actually behaved in exactly the same way Beee

Internal is IDE and External is SCSI

The internal is IDE and External is SCSI so its not a scuzzi problem(mb).

Im thinking its not actually the drives but something on the mb which is faulty and that the easiest and cheapest thing to do is to get a new (seconhand) puter.

Ive tried to format the drive using various installers and OS bootdiscs without luck. I would try to test the scsi but the mum dropped the powerbook the other day and the power socket is now bent and the battery was dead already.

OCed

OCed = OverClocked, IOW changing settings so the processor runs at a speed higher than the factory rated it.

took it to the shop and they swapped the hd with a pulled xbox 9gb hd and it all appeared to work

still not convinced it will all be ok, but it does work. its possible the external will still give problems

he also seemed to have more success if he did the partioning after the erase
