hi my friend just gave me a color classic. However its dead. I am sure the power switch was on, because when the motherboard was removed, the fan turned on and the drives made noise. I changed the pram battery with a new one. Anyone have any ideas what could be wrong with this thing. Thanks Mikow Willson

Have you tried to start it up using the keyboard "power" key? It won't start unless you use that (and of course with the power switch on the back "on".)

I did press the power button with the switch on the back in the on position.
Well i switched the board out with the board from a 575 so im assuming that the board is bad unless anyone has any other ideas\
Unless you intended to begin a Mystic upgrade, the logic board switch may have been a tad premature. If you go to the Colour Classic forum you will find at least a couple of recent posts about the same behaviour. 'Same', that is, if your machine had been off the mains supply for a length of time before you tried to start up. Replacing the backup battery should be almost a reflex action when you get a second-hand machine, unless the old one tests at 3.5V or more in circuit (3.3V in circuit is the break point), so that was not wasted effort.
Then, if the CC doesn't start up with soft power after switch-on behind, leave it switched-on for anything up to 24hr before trying soft power-on again. To the other Macs that profit from this because they need 5-V trickle power, I can now add the IIci.

Sometimes, rapidly toggling the switch on the back of those old compacts have brought them back to life. It's helped me several times.
