SEA, HGX, HELP!!!

I've found a few files I've been looking for, but I can't decompress them with Stuffit Deluxe v3.0x. I found stuff it expander but it's in HGX format. The other one is a SEA (self extracting archive) but it don't self extract. What am I doing wrong here?

StuffIt woes

On the face of it, you seem to have either corrupt downloads, especially if a .sea file does not self-extract as its suffix indicates, or a corrupt StuffIt Expander in your Deluxe package on the hard drive. If re-installation of the StuffIt package does not allow you to expand an .hqx (BinHex) file, you are again obliged to think either about corrupt downloads, or else that the StuffIt version is too old to cope with more recent compression algorithms. Pehaps StuffIt 5.5 is needed?

I concur with the senior smith, you either have corrupt files or you require a newer version of Stuffit Expander.

My suggestion:

Angel Try a newer version of Stuffit Expander (5.x - for both 68k and PPC).

If that fails,

(b) Get replacements, if possible, of your apparently corrupt files. This may mean either requesting that new archives be created at source, or that you simply just get another copy of the compressed file.

Prima facie, as the senior smith so eloquently pointed out.

If I'm not mistaken, I believe I'm using Stuffit 5.1 or 5.5 on my 68k machines. I'm quite sure that I'm using 5.5 on my PPC (OS 9.1 & 9.2.2) machines.

Another idea:

You might want to check that the creator/type for the self-extracting archives is correct. Smile

How to get old Stuffit 5.something

I am having trouble extracting an older piece of software with Stuffit 4.01 on a 190C Mac laptop. Where can I get Stuffit 5.1 or later that will run on that machine?

if the file was ever on any s

if the file was ever on any sort of linux/dos computer (or server) then it wont have the resource fork of the SEA file so it wont open. you can tell if it has no icon on the mac.
