Hmm...I have done something rather strange...

I have, or rather, had, a Pismo and a Wallstreet PDQ. Because of the fragility of the Pismo's case, especially in the screen bezel, I decided that I would attempt to graft a Wallstreet display case, aluminum armor and all, onto it. Luckily for me, it works like a charm. The hinge anchors are just barely small enough to fit into the Pismo, and I had to sand down the little tabs on the bezel that keep dirt out of the hinge area, but it works. I glued the Wallstreet's lid latch half-way open so that it would catch the Pismo's lid release button, and also took the Pismo's screen cables and put them in the proper places. The only problems with this are that the microphone, nor the magnetically-activated sleep switch work, but I really don't care, since I never use the microphone anyway, and I'd like to be able to carry the thing around and listen to music through it, like a giant iPod. Yes, I've heard of the potential issue with overheating, but it won't be on all night, just ten minutes or so. The raised edges of the Wallstreet's screen also prevent the keys from damaging it while it's closed. Now all I have to do is figure out what to call it.

I really wish I could provide pictures, but I have no camera, so you'll have to take my word for it. If I can get a camera, I will try to submit it into the mod section or something.

Also, is Apple's PowerBook G3 AC Adapter Recall Replacement program still up? The page is there, and I ordered the adapter, and also got a confirmation e-mail, but are they really still shipping out those things after what, 5 years?

Nice...

That's a rather creative approach... We'd love to see pics when you can get them.

Oh, I forgot to mention that

Oh, I forgot to mention that doing this will probably require the removal of the WiFi antenna, although it is possible that it could simply be taped to the inside back of the screen case. I don't have an AirPort card, so I just took it out. Also, you should be very careful when threading the inverter wires through the small channel. The Wallstreet's hinge anchors are taller than the Pismo's, and therefore don't align properly with the power button cover, especially on the left side, where a little cutting with an Xacto knife is needed. Anyone attempting this should use the Wallstreet's LCD panel, as it is thicker, and fits better in the case.

I examined my Pismo's screen bezel, and in addition to a gigantic crack in the lower left corner, there are numerous hairline cracks all over both the main case and the screen bezel. I guess having a lightweight laptop means you have to sacrifice durability, eh?
