Mac A\V Personality Card Beige G3

I am having a problem with the Mac A/V Personality Card on my beige G3 PPC. I am not getting sound from the Right Channel when I have the computer connected to a receiver via the RCA I\O connectors. I have tried physically reinstalling the card as well as reinstalling the OS. In addition I have tried a different card with the same problem ocurring. Also when the card is used in the video mirroring mode via the S vhs out port the is significant humming from the speakers particularily at the video refres rate of 60mhz. I am attempting to build an entertainment server out of the G3. I have installed two 120 Gb hard drives in the unit and was hopeing to use the A\V card for audio and video playback and capturing. Any information regaring this situation would be greatly appreciated!

have you looked to see if the

have you looked to see if the balance it set to the senter or the volume for both sides are all the way up in the sound config window. What OS are you running i got a beige G3 AIO with a A/V personality card and everything works fine running under OS 9.2.2, and under OS X 10.2 the A/V personality card is not suppoorted prolly cause there is no drivers for it under that OS. I can hook it up to my stereo with no buzzing and have it hooked to my tv with no side affect's.

Have you looked to see if the RCA connector's that plugs into the personality card has a good connection look to see if there isnt any corrosion on the RCA jacks mabe its a bad cable. BTW did the A/V card come standard with that Mac or did you install it yourself mabe there is some sort of problem with that Macs logic board. Hav you tryed resetting the pram and open firmware and press the cuda button. somthing don't sound right at all

AV Wings

As madmax said theAV card is not supported by OS X. however did you install the card with the OS already installed?? If you did not all the drivers are installed by the OS for the AV Card. (I found this out the hard way) you may have to do a clean install to correct the problem
The AV Card will work fine with OS 9.2. For some reason Mac OS's will not install drivers for hardware not installed, even though the hardware is an option

Also check the slot itself.

Also check the slot itself. There may be bent pins inside the slot. I had that happen on the PDS slot of a 660AV. Not fun. If you are lucky it didn't happen. If you are a little less lucky only one or tow pins are bent. Wink I had in the neighborhood of 20.

Mac A\V Personality Card Beige G3

I have set the balance to center in OS X 10.2.8 as well as adjust the sound volume without success. In OS 9.2.2 there was no balance control setting that I could locate. I found that the card was possibly not seated correctly and reseated it. I didi do a clean install of both OS x and OS 9 and will possibly have to do it again because of the card may not have been seated correctly duing the OS installations. I have tested the rca cables and connection and found no problem with them. I installed a different A\V Card and the problem persisted (No Right Channel Sound). I have a G3 MT as well and the A\V card works in the audio and video mode with the same receiver without a problem. I moved the video card from away from the a\v card thinking that this might be the cause of the buzzing. I will have to test this to confirm it. The computer also has an Orange Micro USB/Firewire card installed in the PCI slots. I may have to end up reinstalling the OS's againg. If this does'nt solve the problem perhaps the personality slot or the motherboard is damaged. What do you think? Thank you very much for your response!

Jon,
Thsi is something that I have considered as well and will check tonight. I had checked the pins previously, but a more closer observation is needed.

Thanks

I did try resetting the PRAM without success and have not doen the Open Firmware Option or Cuda Switch. Will attempt thes options before reinstlling OS and checking for pin damage. Where exactly is the Cuda switch located?

Thanks

you can forget trying to run

you can forget trying to run the A/V card in OS X cause it's not supported. Now under os 9.2.2 it works fine you might have to clean the pins in the connector on the logic board cause they can get dirty and wont connect properly. either its this or the drivers didnt install, or could be a logic board problem. If they work in another Mac then its not the card it has to be the slot. the cuda button it the little gray button right next to the last pci slot with the system turned off press it and hold it for about 10-15 seconds. then first install os 9.2 once its done boot into os 9.2 make shure every thing works and then install OS X

Not quite so - the audio should work fine, I'm using it right now. It's the video bit that's not supported.

The audio part of the Wings c

The audio part of the Wings card has always worked in OS X, just like the Whisper card.
It's just the video portion that OS X spits at.

Ah ok i was always told that

Ah ok i was always told that it don't work under OS X cause there was no drivers for it. now if only someone could make them for OS X for it to fully work now that would rock.

I wish i could get the volume buttons in fron of my beige G3 AIO to work under OS X. The 2 front ear phone jacks don't shut off the main speakers in OS X when somthing is plugged into them. The ear phone jack in the back works great and shuts the main speakers down.

The built in mic dont work under OS X it should all work or work right but don't prolly cause it need's drivers for it i guess
