Duo 280c and G4 iBook

Hi all,
I just got a duo 280c for Christmas, but it does not have any floppy drive. The duo has a modem, and so does my iBook. I am thinking I can connect the two through their modems, but I have NO idea how to connect them. Does anyone have an idea how I can hook these two together and share files? Thanks in advance.

Any Way?

So there's no possible way to do this with what I have now?

P.S. The iBook has 10.4.3 and the duo 280c has 7.6.1

serial?

The duo should have a serial port, which is the only way to transfer data w/o a dock of some kind. You could get a laserwriter cable and connect it via appletalk to another mac w/ serial ports, or get a USB-serial adapter for your ibook.

modem slow, but possible

Just use a communications terminal proggy. I've never had to do this, but back in the day it was a quite common way to talk between otherwise incompatible machines.

Also, consider a localtalk->enet adapter for the Duo's serial/LT port, then you can simply plug the Duo into your existing enet network. Cost ought to be in the $1-$20 range. Heck, I've got a pile of Farallon EtherWave adapters I'd let go cheap, email me if you want to buy one (see my sig.)

You can try using a phone wir

You can try using a phone wire with a small voltage aplied to one wire. I've put a 9v battery on the red wire, IIRC, so that two phones could talk to each other. You'd basically set the Duo to "call" out to the iBook nad not wait to a dial tone. Then, tell the iBook to "pick up" and they should try to connect. It's been years since I've futzed with AT commands, but like DK posted, you can just plug 'em together and see if it works with a direct link and using term programs. I'd do a bit of research on simulating a phone line and the voltages/wires needed. I'm very sure you don't need to mess with ring voltages and all that crap, just the off-hook voltage.
