Mac OS 8.5

Hi everybody,

My mate gave me his copy of 8.5 but it is really scratched to the extent that only half the files work. I have tried t-cut, brasso, all that crap and nothing works. Do I technically own the cd if my friend gave it to me. Cos if i do i need a copy which is legal.... right?? Beee If this is true can anyone send me the disk image??

Thanks

Oli

You own it, here's how you clean it. . .

If you own the storebought disk (not just licensed to use on an accompaning computer) you own the right to use it on a computer.

I've recovered heavily scratched CD's with Disk Doctor, disk polishing device. The results aren't visually pretty (the surface goes from shiney to matte) but it makes the disk readable.

BTW, I think that the last update in OS 8 was version 8.6. You should be able to download the update from the Apple site or Cnet.com. The difference between v8.5 and v8.6 was important for me, as only 8.6 had support LaCie brand firewire CD burners.

Good luck.
